##Supervisor II - Arenas
(Full Time) Recreation and Culture Department
Overview The City of Chilliwack Recreation and Culture Department requires a Supervisor II – Arenas (Full Time). This role is a hands-on, working supervisor responsible for supporting the safe, efficient, and high-quality operation of Recreation and Culture facilities. The position plays a key leadership role in overseeing day-to-day arena operations, including staff supervision, ice maintenance, and facility upkeep, while ensuring compliance with municipal policies, procedures, and safety standards.
The incumbent is responsible for coordinating and directing staff, organizing resources, and maintaining equipment to ensure facilities are clean, safe, and operating at optimal performance. This role requires strong leadership, technical knowledge of arena operations, and the ability to respond effectively to operational challenges, including after-hours emergencies. The successful candidate will contribute to a positive team environment while delivering reliable service to the public and supporting overall departmental goals.

In order for you to succeed in this role, you will need to have the following requirements and skills:

Must have a minimum of Grade 12 education; or equivalency;

Must hold a valid Refrigeration Operator Certificate, or be a Power Engineer (Fourth Class or higher) as defined in the BC Safety Standards Act-Power Engineers, Boiler, Pressure Vessel and Refrigeration Safety Regulation;

Must have a minimum of five years experience in ice making and general maintenance procedures with a minimum of two years in a supervisory role, augmented with formal training in effective supervision.

Must have completed a Building Services Worker course or the equivalent training and experience.

Must have experience in janitorial work and a good knowledge of material, methods, procedures and equipment used in janitorial work;

Must be in possession of a valid B.C. Driver's Licence;

Able to operate a variety of equipment, and perform minor repairs;

Able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs;
-
Able to exhibit courtesy, tact and diplomacy in dealing with the public and be neat and presentable in appearance;

Able to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with co-workers, users and other members of the public;
-
Able to understand verbal and written instructions in English and complete required forms, logs and reports.
The incumbent, upon hiring, will have union dues deducted from source in accordance with the Union Agreement. The rate of pay for this position is $43.67 (2026 rate).
