About the role

Marketing Statement Metro Vancouver Transit Police ("Transit Police") is the leader in regional public transit policing, operating across 22 communities. It provides policing services to all modes of transit: Bus, SeaBus, SkyTrain, and West Coast Express. In partnership with cross-regional partners, Transit Police prevents crime and provides coordinated police services to transit users throughout the region. It also seeks to have a workforce that is responsive to and reflective of the many diverse communities is serves.

Responsibilities We are looking for experienced Communications Operators to join our team as a Regular Part Time Dispatchers as we provide exceptional call taking and dispatch services to the Metro Vancouver Transit Police, our TransLink partners and the ridership.

Our unique Communications Centre works closely with Jurisdictional Police within Metro Vancouver and offers a variety of shift options for our casual staff at our Headquarters in New Westminster.

Our OCC staff answer emergency and non-emergency phone calls and text messages creating and dispatching files using the Motorola Operating Console (MOC) and Versaterm CAD. A variety of CPIC related tasks are completed within the OCC using RMS 8.1 including; confirming warrants and conditions, adding IRP details, sending CPIC narratives and monitoring/responding to requests received by CPIC.

Our teams monitor Translink radio channels and files created by other Police agencies in order to assist with incidents in/around Skytrain stations and bus loops. Working closely with the Operations Centres, we are able to request real time CCTV monitoring as well as Skytrain and Bus holds.

In addition to Patrol, our specialty units include; K9 Teams (Explosive Detection), Targeted Traffic Services, Community Engagement Teams, Indigenous Liaison Officers, Crime Suppression Teams, General Investigation, and Mental Health Officers. We also have a close working relationship with our Waterfront Volunteer members.

Qualifications To qualify you must be a Canadian Citizen or a Canadian Permanent Resident.

Typing speed minimum 60 wpm with high degree of accuracy.

Ability to work a variety of shifts (see below for requirements).

Excellent critical thinking skills with a proven ability to make sound decisions.

Must be an exceptional multi-tasker with the ability to manage demanding high stress situations while working well as part of a team.

Customer service oriented with the ability to communicate effectively (orally and written).

Possess sound geographical knowledge of the Lower Mainland and Skytrain system.

EDUCATION

Grade 12 graduation or equivalent

Experience Minimum of 2 years Police Call taking and Dispatch experience using Versaterm CAD and RMS

Work Schedule This position works minimum of 30 hours and up to 40 hours per week.

Work Designation Resident.

Rate of Pay Group 8: $38.94 to $46.71 hourly.
