AGS is looking for a Quality Lab Technician to join our dynamic organization.
JOB SUMMARY
The Quality Lab Technician helps maintain quality systems and processes to meet company and customer needs. This position provides focused quality support for manufacturing and business processes to ensure the delivery of products that meet our customers' expectations. This position will drive successful development, deployment, and maintenance of business processes, laboratories, and training that contribute to compliance and best practices. The Quality Lab Technician will influence change across all business disciplines and will team with several departments including Engineering, Materials, and Production.
DUTIESRESPONSBILITIES
- Review and enforce customer needs regarding product quality, identify internal actions to meet specific requests regarding quality reporting and documentation, develop and monitor internal processes to ensure compliance.
- Work with the production team to review quality business decisions, tolerance analysis, maintain calibration and gauge systems and develop the process of test data collections.
- Conduct daily testing requirements in a reliability lab and liaise with other departments to ensure conforming material is being produced.
- Select test products at specified stages in production process, and test products for variety of qualities such as dimensions, performance, and mechanical, electrical, or chemical characteristics.
- Locate, prepare and manage all test samples through the reliability lab. This includes using precise measuring equipment such as microscopes, hardness tester and thickness gauges that will encompass both wet and dry measurement methodology.
- Record test data, applying statistical quality control procedures.
- Recommend modifications of existing quality or production standards to achieve optimum quality within limits of equipment capability.
- Evaluates data and writes reports to validate or indicate deviations from existing standards.
- Sets up and performs destructive and non-destructive tests on materials, parts, or products to measure performance, life, or material characteristics.
- Maintain, review, and analyze internal company quality data.
- Work with department staff and other individuals on inspection activities to meet production demands while maintaining applicable quality standards.
- Monitor conformance to specifications and liaise with appropriate individuals.
- Identify internal and external problems and work with others to complete root cause analysis, corrective / preventive action, including implementation.
- Co-ordinate and deliver training for quality and/or inspection activities.
- Champions special projects relating to process and quality improvement and the success of new product launches related to quality standards and issues, in a proactive manner.
- Acts as a customer liaison through phone, email and direct visitation depending on the degree and severity of quality issues.
- Ensure accurate and timely records and documentation is maintained (i.e. - inspection records, SPC, etc.).
- Manage lab supplies and ensure a clean lab environment for precision testing.
EDUCATION, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- University degree or College diploma in Chemical Engineering Technology or technical related field.
- Entry level position - recent graduates will be strongly considered.
- Good analytical skills
EFFORT
- Occasional periods of mental and visual concentration during computer and scheduling work.
- Frequent listening and mental attentiveness in dealing with daily logistics demands and supervising people.
- Mental effort required in multi-tasking and handling interruptions that require constant refocusing.
- Requires frequent walking throughout the plant.
- Ability to lift and transfer bumpers during management inspections.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Work is carried out in a typical industrial environment with frequent visits throughout the shop floor.
- Requires changing shifts and working additional hours when the need arises. Short notice and time pressures
- May require visits to other locations.
- Requires wearing personal protective equipment (e.g., safety footwear, hearing protection, safety glasses).

AGS has capabilities in stamping, plating, coatings, welding, engineering and design, and sequencing and assembly. Founded in 1947, with 8 facilities in Canada and the US and with over 154,219m2 of manufacturing floor space.
AGS has a distinctive expertise in chrome plating impact beams. AGS’s impact beams consistently exceed appearance and corrosion resistance standards and have an unsurpassed warranty record. In addition, continued investment in chrome plating R&D has enabled AGS to deliver superior quality, corrosion resistance and material reductions to its customers. AGS also has e-coat and zinc line facilities which provide corrosion protection to metallic parts which are not chrome plated.
AGS also has considerable know-how in stamping complex parts. AGS has more than 135 stamping presses in its facilities, with capacity up to 2500T, including tandem, transfer and progressive presses, many with very large beds to accommodate large parts. A sampling of AGS’s stamped products includes bumper impact system components, cross members, oil pans, control arms, hitches, pillars, beams and frame assemblies.
AGS also has particular skill in welding, including MIG, resistance and drawn arc, and has developed highly automated, flexible welding equipment to help reduce cycle time and improve yields and efficiency.
