WHAT IS HAIVE? HAIVE is a real and paid work experience in Risk Management and Insurance (RMI) from the comfort of your University campus. HAIVE, which stands for Hybrid Academia-Industry Internships via Virtual Engagement, is an incubator that fuses industry and academia collaboration, research and applications, and practical experiential teaching and learning, all to help jump-start careers in RMI for qualified students. HAIVE hinges on virtual reality capabilities, providing a truly innovative, immersive and accessible corporate experience. Students gain professional skills in a “work as you learn” environment, while being mentored and supervised by prominent leaders in the field.

HAIVE INTERNATIONAL
We are proud to announce our partnership with HEC Lausanne in Switzerland for this internship cohort. Through this collaboration, selected interns from the University of Toronto and York University will work alongside students from HEC Lausanne using virtual reality technology, creating a truly international and immersive hybrid collaboration experience.
HOW DOES THE HAIVE PROJECT WORK? A team of 3-6 talented students, for 4 hours a week and over the course of 16 weeks, work together on a real-world challenge faced by RMI industry and deliver their solution to a panel of industry and faculty advisors in a professional presentation or report, at the end of the project. Reports and presentations will be delivered in a corporate space built in virtual reality, with in-person team meetings. Each HAIVE team will be matched with an industry manager, who will frame the problem for the team to solve, and an academic mentor who will guide the process and provide academic support and tools to ensure analytical rigor and high-quality results.
WHY HAIVE? Real work experience with industry leaders, academic experts and international peers. No need to delay graduation. Work and study concurrently. Engage directly with RMI industry experts. Exposure to RISC networks, including job openings.
WHAT DO YOU GET? Monthly pay and a boost to your resume. Certificate of completion and/or recommendation letters. Job referrals, for successful interns. Social media features and awards. Networking opportunities. Possibility of having your project outcomes published. Possibility of bagging a second internship.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE? (1) Undergraduate students from any discipline who have passed at least one course in elementary statistics and have some knowledge in data analytics. (2) Master students from any discipline. (3) Hold a minimum GPA of B and be available to start on September 2, 2026, in an in-person role with hybrid components based at RISC’s North York office.
