What to expect:
The Fund Accountant is responsible for the accurate, timely, and confidential accounting, budgeting, and financial reporting of government grants and charitable programs within the CWB Group. This role ensures compliance with fund accounting principles and supports program effectiveness through sound financial management.
This includes:
Fund Accounting
- Prepare documentation for program applications.
- Set up government grant and charitable programs in the accounting system, including assigning chart of accounts.
- Prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations for the CWB Welding Foundation.
- Perform bank reconciliations.
- Record general ledger journal entries, including period-end allocations and accruals.
- Prepare and issue invoices, record cash receipts, and apply funding and donations.
- Issue donation receipts to internal and external donors.
- Prepare and file Foundation sales tax rebates (QST and GST/HST).
- Act as primary liaison with funding agencies for financial reviews and external audits related to grants and programs.
Budgeting and Reporting
- Lead the development of financial budgets for government grants and programs.
- Participate in program targeting and budget formulation meetings with program managers and senior leadership.
- Prepare monthly internal and external financial reports related to government funding and charitable initiatives.
General Accounting
- Prepare monthly bonus accruals and assist with period-end allocations, including non-financial entries.
- Maintain fixed asset schedules and perform fixed asset accounting for both CWB Welding Foundation and Weld.com Inc.
Other duties as assigned
- Support team continuity by providing cross-trained backup for general accounting and reporting tasks during staff absences, including vacation coverage.
- Participation in Year-end audit activities.
- Participation in cross-functional project teams.
This job may require additional responsibilities and duties as assigned by CWB.
In this position, you will report to the Finance Supervisor and will work out of their home office, travel will be required from time to time. CWB has adopted a remote-first working model, where employees will work from their home office, servicing the client within their specified areas either remotely or in person. We are embracing radical flexibility, where employees are encouraged to work a schedule that works best for them, their team, and their clients.
What you bring to the table:
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration or accounting.
- 5-7 years relevant accounting experience.
- In-depth knowledge of fund accounting principles and not-for-profit accounting practices.
- Understanding of Canadian GAAP as it applies to not-for-profits and registered charities.
- Strong analytical and financial reporting skills.
- Experience preparing management and external reports in a timely manner.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build partnerships and manage multiple priorities.
- Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- This is a remote, work from home position.
- Travel might be required from time to time.
The following qualifications are considered assets:
- Completion of CPA coursework, even if the designation was not obtained or is no longer being actively pursued, is considered an asset.
- Experience in accounting for both federal and provincial grant applications.
- Experience with MS Dynamics GP (Great Plains), Workday Adaptive Planning, and Office Connect.
- Advanced Excel skills.
