Senior Application Analyst
About the role
The Senior Applications Analyst is responsible for the maintenance, enhancements, and monitoring of core and digital banking applications, including configuration and support to Butterfield applications and solutions.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Configuring and testing support software applications and features.
- Gathering and documenting business needs from various stakeholders, and translating them into detailed technical specifications.
- Analysing existing business processes and how SaaS applications can improve efficiency, productivity, and financial performance.
- Collaborating with technical teams to design system workflows, API interactions, and database structures, focusing on scalability and performance.
- Carrying software products through the software development life cycle (SDLC).
- Writing concise and efficient business requirements, configuration documents, and test cases.
- Providing day-to-day support for existing SaaS applications, while investigating and resolving production issues and coordinating incident resolution.
- Working in an agile environment to support release of software on a regular schedule.
- Analysing and documenting application issues, requirements, and controls.
- Resolving problems throughout the information system and technology lifecycle, including classification, prioritisation, and initiation of action, while documenting root causes and how to prevent future incidents.
- Participating in on-call rotations to help mitigate any potential production issues.
- Identifying trends for all incidents and problems, resolving them in order of impact to business functions, while maintaining effective communication to stakeholders.
- Using the Configuration Management Database (CMDB) for the management of technology assets and components through their life cycles and how they relate to other technology components.
- Completing regular training as required by Bank policy, local regulations, or legislation and in accordance with the Guernsey Financial Services Commission Handbook.
Your qualifications and skills include:
- Ability to demonstrate analytical thinking and problem-solving.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to speak with diverse audiences.
- Expertise in banking operations, particularly in areas such as payments, credit cards, and financial crime prevention.
- Strong understanding of the corporate and retail banking environment.
- Awareness of or experience in the IT audit process.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., Azure, Oracle) would be an added advantage.
- Good knowledge of incident management and analysis techniques, including service desk tools.
- Experience with SQL, SQL Server, Apache, and Java.
- Familiarity using Component Failure Impact Analysis (CFIA) and System Outage Analysis (SOA) processes.
Desired candidate experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Finance or Computer Science, or an MBA in Finance or Banking.
- 8-12 years of experience in a similar role, ideally in the financial industry.
- An understanding of regulatory changes, payment networks, and risk management within banking operations.
- Must be comfortable with managing, implementing, and supporting cloud-based (Saas) applications rather than traditional on-premise systems.
