About this position

The Maintenance Supervisor/Coordinator QA role is to perform Audits and other Quality Assurance tasks with respect to the performance and control of maintenance functions and activities conducted in support of Canadian North aircraft, to ensure those activities are in compliance to all applicable regulatory requirements and conform to company policies. This role is part of the Canadian North Quality Assurance program, which was established to meet the requirements of the Canadian Aviation Regulations.

Reporting to: Manager, Corporate Quality Assurance

Level: As per the GAFAE Collective Agreement

Duties and Responsibilities

Interested candidates should be able to perform the following duties and responsibilities:

  • Audit on a regular pre-determined basis policies, processes and procedures, set out in the Company's manuals to ensure compliance to the regulatory requirements or other standards regarding AMO, AOC, AEO and ATO and Manufacturing Certificates issued to Canadian North;
  • Conduct random audits or spot checks that will include areas of maintenance that are in progress, including work being performed during a night shift, and perform effectiveness or follow-up audits to ensure corrective action has been taken relative to deficient characteristics identified in previous audits;
  • Perform prime vendor/component agency audits as deemed necessary by the Director, Corporate Quality Assurance or his delegate;
  • Audit Canadian North Maintenance Services (CNMS) facilities on a regular basis to ensure compliance to Transport Canada and company requirements;
  • Audit all CNMS Aircraft, Shop and Stores Certification/Acceptance Authority holders to ensure that the procedures outlined in the Process Maintenance Manual are upheld and that the aforementioned is well versed on said subject;
  • Perform Aircraft conformity checks;
  • Perform Maintenance training in, but not limited to, elementary work; aircraft de-icing; MCM/MPM updates;
  • Preparation of checklists and other audit related documentation;
  • Collection, verification and recording of audit evidence;
  • Report accidents, incidents, or safety hazards through the SMS system
  • Conduct safety investigations as deemed necessary by the Director, Corporate Quality Assurance;
  • Perform independent review of all Company aircraft & Equipment Airworthiness Directives and their associated instructions for maintenance personnel as required;
  • Conduct a review of Company manuals (MSA, MEL and ICA) prior to submission for approval;
  • Travel to Company bases/stations and vendor facilities for auditing purposes;
  • Staying current with industry practices;
  • Maintaining proficiency with company software products used in the daily operations;
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications

Include, but not limited to, the following minimum skills and qualifications:

  • High School diploma and be a graduate from an approved training program
  • Minimum 5 years aviation industry related experience;
  • Previous supervisory training and/or experience considered an asset;
  • Must hold valid Transport Canada Aircraft Maintenance Engineers License either M1 or M2 category;
  • Must have prior auditing experience
  • Advanced knowledge of Canadian Aviation Regulations and Safety Management Systems (SMS);
  • Must have prior experience in independently reviewing Airworthiness Directives and preparation of aircraft basic weight & balance reports;
  • Must possess superior interpersonal & communication skills for internal and external customers;
  • Ability to communicate in Aboriginal Languages considered an asset;
  • Must be adept at managing multiple priorities and deadlines under minimal supervision;
  • Prior experience with an Approved Engineering Organization would be an asset;
  • Must have working knowledge of MS Suite;
  • Knowledge of computer databases would be considered an asset;
  • Ability to obtain and retain an Airport Restricted Area Identity Card in accordance with the Airport Restricted Area Access Clearance Program regulated by Transport Canada.
