About the role

Now hiring! Quality Engineer - Windsor Windsor We are looking for a Quality Engineer to join our Coatings team onsite in Windsor.

Come create chemistry with us! We are looking for a Quality Engineer to support continuous improvement initiatives and help reduce fixed costs within the BASF Coatings organization. This role leverages Six Sigma methodologies to lead improvement projects, coordinate cross-functional teams, develop project scopes and charters, and follow the DMAIC process to implement effective strategies for problem resolution and enhanced business performance.

A key responsibility is ensuring strict adherence to IATF 16949 and other essential automotive quality standards, such as ISO 9001, VDA 6.3, and internal O&M requirements. The Quality Engineer will address product quality issues both internally and with BASF customers, lead or participate in quality audits according to these global automotive standards, perform statistical analyses and data interpretation, and support NCM Management as part of the coatings organization’s Quality Governance Program.

  • Improving and designing quality processes using engineering and analytics.
  • Performing root cause analysis of paint defects and implementing effective corrective actions to resolve them.
  • Leading project teams by providing direction in the support of achieving strategic business goals and targets.
  • Championing nonconformance management efforts toward problem resolution of systemic quality issues with both customer and financial impact, including root cause and corrective action identification.
  • Leading, managing, and supporting continuous improvement projects and LEAN deployment initiatives at the manufacturing site level.
  • Leading both internal manufacturing audits, and external supplier and toller audits to ensure conformance to the quality standards.
  • Supporting quality related activities critical to your role and performing critical data analyses. Analyzing and interpreting data regarding product performance on-line at customer sites as well as paint batch data within BASF manufacturing sites. Identifying trends with various paint properties will be key to understanding potential paint batch related issues toward root cause resolution.
  • Working closely with the operations team, to make quality investigations, conducting audits and developing solutions for quality issues. Often involved in manufacturing process optimization.

If you have...

  • a Bachelor’s Degree (required) or a Master’s degree (a plus) in a business related or science related discipline.
  • 10+ years of quality manufacturing or business experience in an industrial environment.
  • LEAN Master Certification Six Sigma (preferred).
  • Willingness to work all shifts as necessary.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time, mainly in North America.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills crisis management skills.
  • Excellent organization project management skills.
  • Experience in Quality Systems and working knowledge of quality standards such as ISO9001, TS16949, etc.
  • Formal training experience with quality tools (i.e., MSA, SPC, FMEA Control Plans PPAP) experience with supplier development.
  • In-depth knowledge of computer systems, specifically Microsoft Office, SAP, and digital tools.
  • Extensive knowledge of data statistical analysis software such as Minitab.
