About the role

Community Services’ Restorative Justice Program facilitates a restorative approach in achieving justice by engaging those involved in harmful and/or criminal events, in dialogue about harm, reparation, accountability, and supports while addressing the needs of all parties.

The Restorative Justice Program coordinator is responsible for ensuring an approach to justice that focuses utilizing a victim centered approach to address the harm caused while holding the person who has caused harm responsible for their actions, by providing an opportunity for the parties who have been harmed to identify and address their needs. Restorative justice encourages meaningful engagement and accountability and provides an opportunity for healing, reparation and reintegration.

This position supports the person who is harmed and person who caused harm to meet the principles of engage, empower, support and restore. The Restorative Justice Coordinator supports individuals within the Client-focused model of Restorative Justice Services. The Restorative Justice Coordinator is responsible for written documentation, liaising with the supervisor, RCMP officers, Crown Counsel, businesses, and other community schools and representatives.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Overseeing and leading intake, case development, pre-meeting, and facilitation with the ‘harmed persons and the one who harmed’, restorative justice conferences, and/or circles
  • Restorative Action education and support within schools
  • Responsible for prioritizing timelines and/or deadlines as per client cases within program structure and availability.
  • Responsible for all client documentation, organization and security of material including legal documents, applications, research material and referral information.
  • Responsible for participating in training opportunities and information sessions made available through the RCMP, RJBC and the community.
  • Responsible for program development, project planning and evaluation including:
  • Maintaining current information to reflect trends and needs of

community and individuals

  • Maintaining and developing a resource directory of community contacts.
  • Planning for and acquiring resource materials to aid in the delivery of

service.

  • Completion of annual program report.
  • Providing public education as necessary.
  • Responsible for fostering relationships and collaborating with the RCMP, Crown Counsel, and community partners and to conduct training or presentations as requested
  • Group facilitation
  • Responsible for adjusting hours to meet program demands.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education, Training and Experience

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in a related/social services field such as Restorative Justice, Psychology,

Education, Child and Youth Care, Counselling, Criminology.

  • Restorative Justice mediation/facilitation/conferencing training and experience.
  • Experience facilitating individual and group discussions that may involve strong emotions and difficult topics.

Additional Requirements:

  • Clear Criminal Record Check is required.
  • Current First Aid and CPR Certificate.
  • Valid and unrestricted Class 5 BC Driver’s License with access to a safe and reliable vehicle.
  • Position requires Union Membership.

Shift/Schedule/Hours per week: Part-time; 18 hours per week

Wage/Salary: starting at $38.68 / hour

Grid Level: 14P
