Cogeco Communication, a publicly traded multinational communication company, is looking for a Strategy and Corporate Development Analyst to join its team in Montreal.
Reporting to the Vice President of Strategy and Corporate Development, the Analyst will play an active role in supporting the company's growth plan, actively participate in supporting key strategic decision processes, and specifically assist with mergers and acquisitions as well as capital allocation decisions. This individual will also perform analyses for organic growth projects and produce sector comparative analyses (benchmarking).
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Participate in the process of potential business acquisitions or divestitures (including due diligence).
- Execute the necessary analyses to select and validate strategic options for the company, as well as to evaluate the return on investment of various organic growth projects.
- Prepare analyses and opportunity studies supporting significant capital allocation decisions.
- Develop, maintain, and improve financial models and analyses for valuation purposes (DCF, LBO, comparable companies, precedent transactions, etc.).
- Prepare recommendations and presentations for submission to senior management and the Board of Directors.
- Support business units through various initiatives aimed at improving their operational and financial efficiency.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
ACADEMIC BACKGROUND
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Economics, Finance, Accounting, Engineering, or another equivalent degree.
WORK EXPERIENCE
- 2 to 3 years of experience in management consulting, strategy consulting, transactional advisory, investment, or other relevant experience, preferably within a corporate strategy or development team.
SKILLS
- Proven research capabilities, facilitating in-depth competitive and market analysis.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information into clear insights.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in both French and English. The successful candidate will need to draft documents in both languages for senior management and the Board of Directors.
- Ability to build and maintain financial models to quantify the impact of strategic options.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret financial statements and accounting concepts.
- Proficiency in work tools such as Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Accountability for one’s work, attention to detail, and ability to manage one’s scope of work.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Interpersonal skills and strong team spirit.
OPTIMAL REQUIREMENTS
ACADEMIC BACKGROUND
- Wall Street Prep or any other equivalent training is an asset.
- CPA, CFA, or CBV designations (or actively pursuing them) are an asset.
SKILLS
- Financial modeling (including DCF and merger modeling) and the ability to structure a rational thought process approach from scratch.
- Experience in the telecom industry is an asset.
