About The Role
We are seeking an exceptional Director of Data Engineering to join McKesson Technology US Pharmaceutical Distribution (USPD) Decision Intelligence organization. This leadership role is pivotal in driving the design, development, and optimization of USPD data products. The successful candidate will be responsible for setting the technical vision, managing high-performing teams, and aligning data strategies with overarching business objectives. You will oversee large-scale data products built on modern data stacks, ensuring they meet performance, security, and compliance standards. Collaboration with stakeholders across various functions is essential to ensure data capabilities support critical business decisions and innovation initiatives. This role requires a blend of technical expertise, strategic thinking, and leadership skills to deliver impactful data solutions that empower McKesson’s USPD portfolio.
Qualifications
Candidates should possess a minimum of 12 years of professional experience in related IT fields, with at least 4 years in leadership, planning, and communication roles. A master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or an equivalent field is required. Certifications such as Azure Data Engineer Associate, Azure Solutions Architect Expert, and Databricks certifications are highly preferred. Proven experience in architecting AI-First Data Platforms, leveraging Generative AI, and implementing RAG-ready architectures is essential. Candidates must demonstrate deep expertise in Microsoft Azure data services, Databricks platform, and modern data architectures. Strong programming skills in Python, Scala, SQL, and .NET, along with experience in regulated industries such as healthcare, financial services, or manufacturing, will be advantageous. Excellent communication, leadership, and innovative problem-solving skills are critical for success in this role.
Responsibilities
Partner with executives, business leaders, and technology stakeholders to define and execute the data architecture vision and strategic roadmap. Drive innovation by adopting emerging technologies, enhancing data engineering practices, and maintaining a competitive edge. Establish and enforce data engineering standards, best practices, and governance frameworks across the organization. Design, build, and maintain scalable, AI-ready data products utilizing Microsoft Azure ecosystem, ensuring efficient data ingestion, transformation, and storage. Lead advanced implementations on Databricks for large-scale data processing, machine learning workflows, and real-time analytics. Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing team of data engineering directors and technical specialists. Collaborate cross-functionally with Operations, Data Science, Analytics, IT, and Business Intelligence teams to deliver integrated solutions. Develop talent through technical career pathways, training programs, and engineering excellence initiatives. Foster a culture of innovation, continuous learning, and technical excellence within the data engineering organization. Oversee the delivery of data engineering products, ensuring operational uptime, performance, and cost efficiency. Implement monitoring, alerting, and incident response protocols for mission-critical data systems. Partner with the Enterprise Data Platform team to implement automation, AI accelerators, and DevOps practices to streamline deployment and enhance reliability. Manage budgets, vendor relationships, and strategic partnerships to optimize total cost of ownership. Leverage AI technologies to automate data curation workflows, optimize data pipelines, and support petabyte-scale data operations. Ensure data platform security, compliance, and performance across all environments, adhering to industry standards and regulations.
