Role Overview

Reporting to the Community Services Manager, the Community Services Supervisor is an integral part of The Stop's leadership team responsible for the supervision of our drop-in and Food Bank
teams.. We are looking for an experienced supervisor who shares our commitment to community, food security, and social justice.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

General Duties

  • Work with our Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) to maintain and monitor adherence of Health and Safety protocols, Remote Work Policies, and any other applicable policies

  • Monitor compliance and continue to develop and update all operating procedures in our programing and operating spaces (e.g., 1884 Davenport and Wychwood Open Doors);

  • Support the hiring , training, coaching, and supervision of new staff, including seasonal student workers and relief staff,

  • Lead, motivate, and support program staff in the development and delivery of programs;

  • Be proficient in managing corrective actions and resolving conflicts in accordance with agency policies and the collective agreement

  • Work closely with Director of Programs and Evaluation to support yearly impact evaluation;

  • Contribute to the development and monitoring of yearly budgets.

Core Responsibilities

  • Supervise and evaluate food bank and drop-in staff

  • Work with drop-in staff at 1884/WOD and Food Bank staff to ensure that all services reflect the agency’s mission

  • Promote partnerships with local agencies and community groups that support services under supervision

  • Conduct regular site visits to provide leadership presence, coaching, and quality assurance

  • Build a collaborative, respectful, and inclusive work culture rooted in trauma-informed care and equity

  • Contribute to and implement policies and procedures that ensure a safe and welcoming environment

  • Provide regular program updates to the Community Services Manager

  • Participate in hiring and orientation of community services staff

  • Ensure that food bank and drop-in staff work times (hours, lieu time, vacation, sick days) are monitored and documented

  • Facilitate resolution of problems, issues and concerns between staff team members

  • Work with staff to ensure community members behave in safe, respectful ways, intervening when necessary to enforce Stop policies

  • Work with the Volunteer Program and community service volunteers to ensure adequate and efficient operational capacity; ensure volunteers are onboarded, trained, supported, properly scheduled, and recognized

Administration

  • Develop positive relationships with funders and project partners at both locations

  • Co-ordinate the development of program budgets and monitor program spending

  • Work with administrative staff to ensure community services run smoothly at 1884 Davenport Rd and 729 St Clair Av W

  • Steward constructive relationships and maintain open lines of communication with community partners, supporters, and external stakeholders (including Toronto Public Health, Daily Bread, Foodshare, Creating Health Plus/ North York Harvest, Second Harvest, New Farm, 100km etc.)

  • Support completion of mid-year and year-end reports to support fundraising activities

  • Contribute to the writing and submission of documentation and reports as needed

  • Represent The Stop constructively when engaging with the public, other organizations and media

  • Contribute to writing program reports and funding proposals

  • Participate in broader planning and team building activities at the agency

Qualifications and Skills

  • A bachelor's degree in food services, nutrition or a related field and/or relevant experience in community services or a related field is valuable. This could include work in community events, or kitchen management

  • Experience in tracking budget, inventory, handling transactions, and maintaining financial records

  • Ability to supervise and lead a team of front line staff, volunteers, and students

  • Ability to establish and maintain relationships with stakeholders , community organizations, and government entities, etc. through effective communication

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.

  • Self-directed but able to work collectively as a team player

  • Familiarity with local regulations, permits, health and safety standards, and other legal requirements for operating safe dining spaces and food distribution spaces

  • Experience supervising staff within a Unionized environment is an asset

  • Strong written and verbal skills

  • Passionate and knowledgeable of issues related to poverty, social justice, food justice, community development and food security

  • Certification in non-violent crisis intervention or CPI and First Aid

  • Ability to lift 50 lbs
