Please note: This position is 40 hours/week from November 3, 2025 – March 27, 2026.

With dozens of parks—many featuring playgrounds—plus trout ponds for summer fishing, outdoor skating rinks for winter fun, and an extensive network of year-round pathways, there's something for everyone to enjoy. Our team also maintains cemeteries, sports fields, and several off-leash dog areas, ensuring these spaces remain safe, welcoming, and well-kept for residents and visitors alike.

This winter, we're looking for extra hands to help with day-to-day snow clearing and maintenance across town parks, cemeteries, playgrounds, pathways, parking lots, streetscapes, and riparian areas.

As a Parks and Open Spaces Worker, you will:
Support daily maintenance of parks, green spaces, cemeteries, playgrounds, pathways, parking lots, streetscapes, and riparian areas. Tasks include snow and ice clearing, skating surface maintenance, garbage and litter removal, burial site prep, pruning, and minor infrastructure repairs. You’ll clean and maintain playgrounds, benches, picnic tables, and fencing, operate light equipment and vehicles, and handle basic upkeep to keep everything running smoothly. Admin duties like inspections, checklists, and time sheets are also part of the role.

Qualifications, Skills and Abilities

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience with snow clearing tools and equipment
  • At least 6 months in landscaping, horticulture, parks, or related outdoor work
  • Physically fit and ready for manual tasks
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Able to follow instructions and work independently
  • Basic computer skills
  • Valid Class 5 Alberta driver’s license
  • Clear criminal record

Preferred:

  • Mechanical know-how and problem-solving ability
  • Skilled in operating equipment like skid steers, blowers, trucks, and trailers
  • Safe and confident with hand tools and mobile machinery
  • Familiar with maintenance and construction practices
  • Certifications in horticulture, arboriculture, or related fields are a plus
