Acclaim Health announces the availability of Casual Community Recreation Assistant position for the Bring the Club Home program in the Private Care department to work in Halton Region Community (Oakville, Burlington, Milton, Halton Hills). The individual must be available to work at least 1 consistent weekday each week (for example, every Monday). Shift times can be scheduled between 8:00 AM and 6:00 PM, but not for the whole timeframe.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
- Salary Range: $19.29 – $20.39 per hour.
- This position is for an existing vacancy.
- We do not use AI to screen, assess, or select applicants.
PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:
- Provide in-home companionship and caregiver respite, including social engagement and leisure activities.
- Plan and support therapeutic recreation, and meaningful activities aligned with client interests and abilities.
- Effectively utilize appropriate communication and behaviour management strategies for working with persons with dementia.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary care team, including staff, clients, and caregivers.
- Participate in care plan reviews and provide updates as required.
- Maintains accurate and confidential electronic documentation for clients.
- Communicate changes in client condition to the Care Manager or Recreationist.
- Performs other related duties associated with the department as requested by the Manager or Director.
QUALIFICATIONS & EDUCATION**:**
- Post-secondary education or certificate in Recreational Therapy/Personal Support Worker or equivalent.
- Certification in CPR – Basic Rescuer level.
- Certification in Gentle Persuasive Approaches to Dementia Care (will be provided).
- Current TB test (completed within the last 6 months)
- Valid Ontario driver’s license, use of vehicle and insurance per Acclaim Health policy
EXPERIENCE & SKILLS**:**
- Minimum 1 to 2 years experience in gerontology and working with cognitively impaired individuals.
- Understanding and knowledge of Alzheimer Disease and related disorders.
- Strong verbal and written communication, effective listening, assessment, and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to take initiative, work independently and collaboratively as a team member.
- Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
