About the role
School District No. 73 (Kamloops-Thompson) is currently accepting applications for the position of Electrician with our Maintenance Department.
This is a full-time, permanent position. Following successful completion of the probationary period, the incumbent will be eligible for Extended Health and Dental Benefits, as well as Group Life Insurance. School District No. 73 belongs to the Municipal Pension Plan.
Under the limited supervision of the Manager of Buildings, the incumbent is required to perform a variety of skilled tasks at the Journeyman level related to the electrical trade. Work is varied and requires independent judgement and initiative supplemented by technical expertise.
Typical Duties
- Lays out, assembles and installs new electrical systems in accordance with local electrical codes.
- Troubleshoots and maintains electrical systems according to codes.
- Orders necessary supplies and equipment and makes recommendations on the purchase of same.
- Repairs, maintains and modifies existing systems.
- Connects and tests systems.
- Pulls wires through conduit as required.
- Performs any and all duties pertaining to the carpentry trade as directed
- Travels to School District work sites as needed.
- Maintains Electrical log books in keeping with electrical codes.
- Other assigned job related duties.
Abilities, Knowledge And Skills
- Ability to communicate and maintain effective working relationships with teachers, Administrative Officers and other employees of the Board and outside agencies/suppliers.
- Ability to organize and prioritize workload with minimal supervision.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to operate a variety of hand and power tools/equipment.
- Thorough knowledge of all aspects of the electrical trade.
- Basic computer skills (email, work orders, etc.).
Qualifications
- Grade 12 supplemented by full qualifications at the Journeyman level.
- Must possess a valid Interprovincial Electrician’s TQ certificate plus a total of five years proven previous work experience after designation.
- Must be physically able to perform all duties of the position.
- Valid B.C. Driver's License
