About the team you are joining

IATA aims to be a center of expertise in fuel efficiency, supporting airlines and the industry in adopting best practices for fuel efficiency to optimize fuel consumption and achieve savings. IATA’s initiatives related to flight operations fuel efficiency are grouped under the IATA Fuel Efficiency Program.
Reporting to the Head of Flight Operations, you will lead all flight operations initiatives related to fuel efficiency and be responsible for supporting and further developing IATA’s Fuel Efficiency Program. This includes, but not limited to, contributing to consulting activities as a subject matter expert in fuel efficiency audits and best practices, updating IATA fuel-related publications and developing training material.

What your day would be like

Provide expertise, leadership and recommendations in all areas related to flight operations fuel efficiency programs and initiatives.
Develop, enhance, and support IATA’s Fuel Efficiency program such as consulting, training, and the update of publications (e.g. IATA’s Fuel Book and guidance materials).
Participate in research and development activities related to fuel efficiency that will benefit IATA’s member airlines and the aviation industry.
Monitor and remain informed on flight operations fuel related regulations, activities, or new operational procedures. Participate in issues concerning flight operations standards and recommended practices at the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
Liaise with key industry stakeholders on flight operations fuel efficiency best practices and technical developments, including the IATA Flight Operations Group (FOG), IATA Task Forces, ICAO, Regulators, member airlines and the Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs).
Support IATA’s commercial strategy in flight operations fuel efficiency, achieving operational and commercial deliverables on schedule. Identify new commercial opportunities related to fuel efficiency.
Support consulting projects, such as FEGA – Fuel Efficiency Gap Analysis, in close collaboration with IATA Consulting, IATA data analysts, sustainability experts, and IATA member airline specialists (aircraft engineers, flight dispatchers and pilots).
Represent IATA at industry meetings, conferences, expert sessions, and workshops presenting or promoting IATA’s Fuel Efficiency Program.

We would love to hear from you if

A Degree in Engineering or an equivalent professional qualification related to the aviation industry. (e.g. ATPL- Airline Transport Pilot License).
At least 10 years of relevant experience in flight operations with extensive airline exposure as a pilot, flight dispatcher or fuel efficiency expert.
Expert knowledge of airline flight operations procedures and regulations related to aircraft flight plan fuel, inflight fuel burn and post flight fuel consumption data analytics. Specifically:
Experience in supporting implementation of fuel efficiency initiatives within an airline environment, including operational change programs.
Strong understanding of fuel savings validation methodologies, KPI definition, performance monitoring frameworks, and post-implementation tracking.
Experience in building business cases for operational initiatives, including cost-benefit analysis and stakeholder alignment at executive level.
Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
Demonstrated experience in project management.
Effective team player with strong collaborative skills.
