Job Description
We are growing and looking to add an Earthwork Crew Foreman. The ideal candidate combines hands-on heavy equipment expertise with strong leadership skills, capable of directing crew members while operating various pieces of earthmoving equipment. This role requires strong attention to detail, excellent problem-solving skills, while maintaining a safe, productive working environment. This position will oversee daily field operations on job sites, coordinating tasks such as excavation, grading, and material handling, while ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and to project specifications.
Responsibilities
Lead and direct an earthwork crew on daily job site operations
Operate heavy equipment as needed, including excavators, dozers, and loaders Coordinate excavation, grading, and material handling tasks to meet project specifications Read and interpret site plans, grades, and blueprints to guide crew work Communicate daily production goals and job progress to the Project Manager Enforce safety standards and OSHA compliance on site Inspect equipment and job site conditions to identify and correct hazards Train and mentor crew members on proper equipment operation and best practices
Skills
Strong leadership and crew management ability
Proficient operating heavy equipment, including excavators, dozers, and loaders Ability to read and interpret site plans, grades, and blueprints Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail Effective communication with crew members, Project Managers, and other trades on site
Requirements
Proven experience operating heavy equipment, minimum 5 years
Prior experience leading or supervising a construction crew Strong knowledge of excavation, grading, and earthwork practices Strong work ethic and physical ability to lift 50+ pounds Must follow established regulations and advocate for safety on each worksite Must be able to pass Pre-Employment and Random Drug Test(s) High school diploma or equivalent

City Hill Construction was founded in 1972 by Bruce Hansen in Penn Yan, NY. With his hard work ethic, reliability, and passion for giving back to the community, Bruce was able to grow the business and expanded his fleet trucks and equipment well into the 1990’s. Bruce passed away in 1999 and left the business to his son Tim, who operated the business for another 13 years.
In 2013 Dale Stell bought the business along with his two nephews Ryan Stell and Jared Miller. Since then, we have grown the business from 13 employees to over 30 today by expanding into commercial site and excavating work, while continuing to service their residential customers as well. Our dedicated and hardworking employees continue play a huge part in our success to satisfy our clients by safely completing projects on time and within budget. This has allowed us to build great relationships with our customers and has provided many repeat customers year after year.
Since 2013 we have expanded the company’s fleet of trucks and equipment by investing in late model equipment and new technologies such as computer-based takeoff and estimating software to help us be more efficient bidding projects, and GPS machine control on our equipment to be more productive on our job sites.
We hope to continue our growth in the future, while also continuing to carry on the legacy that Bruce started.
