Do you love helping children become healthier, stronger, and happier while building their confidence and skills through sport? Are you passionate about empowering girls in sport and creating positive, inclusive spaces where they can thrive? If so, the YMCA of Oakville would love to hear from you!

We’re looking for an enthusiastic, values-driven Sports Instructor to lead and grow our Girls in Sport basketball and volleyball programs, while also supporting other youth sports programs in our community. This is a new opportunity within our Sports & Recreation team and is ideal for someone who brings energy, initiative, and a passion for empowering girls through physical activity.

As the Girls in Sport – Sports Instructor, you will deliver high-quality, recreational sports programs for children and youth, with a primary focus on girls’ skill development in basketball and volleyball. You will help create fun, encouraging, and inclusive environments where girls feel confident, supported, and motivated to stay active.

Location: 410 Rebecca Street, Oakville, Ontario

Hours of work: Part- Time, variety of shifts including evenings and weekends.

Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday: 4:00pm - 8:00pm, Sunday 9:30am - 2:30pm

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and deliver engaging sports programs for children and youth, with a primary focus on girls’ basketball and volleyball skill development
  • Teach fundamental skills, teamwork, and fair play in a positive and age-appropriate way
  • Adapt coaching approaches to different learning styles
  • Set up and take down equipment; ensure all equipment is safe and maintained
  • Proactively greets, hosts, and interacts with members role modelling YMCA values and mission and responds promptly to members, staff and volunteers concerns with full follow up action
  • Ensure a safe environment by following child protection and safety policies
  • Performs other related duties to fulfill commitment to quality programs for all child and youth members

Requirements:

  • Leadership experience coaching, instructing, leading activities, or participating in girls’ or women’s sport programs
  • Passion for supporting and empowering girls through physical activity
  • Knowledge and ability to teach basic skills and the rules of fair play for sport with an emphasis on basketball and volleyball
  • Strong communication, mentorship, and relationship-building skills suited for children, teens, and families
  • Demonstrated ability to model and promote confidence, teamwork, and sportsmanship
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Minimum 18 years of age
  • Current CPR and First Aid
  • Current (Under 12 months) Police Reference Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening

Desirable

  • Coaching certification in basketball, volleyball or related sports
  • Understanding of the unique development or social needs of girls in sport environments
  • Previous involvement in initiatives that support girls’ participation, retention or advancement in sports
