Job Description

Reporting to: Production Design Supervisor

Purpose: Why you’re here at Brown Bag Films

To produce Character and prop production designs for a 2D animated property, created in the correct style and scale.

Delivery: What you produce

Characters and props that are drawn and created correctly in scale, and style for the animated production.

Measurements: How we measure it

  • Meets creative requirements, within stylistic guidelines and schedule

  • Production Design Supervisor and Art Director approvals.

Key Responsibilities

What you are regularly responsible for doing:

  • Creating Characters and Props in Harmony, making sure that the designs stay on style of the production.

  • Working closely with Design Supervisor to find the best solutions for technical challenges.

  • Creating characters and props in proper style, perspective and scale; making sure the designs are ready for rigging.

  • Creating character mouth charts, hand charts, blinks, turnarounds, of both characters and props. Additional poses if needed for animation.

  • If required, colouring characters and props using approved reference materials and stylistic guidelines of the production.

Key Requirements

Things that help you do your job (what is essential & what is desirable)

Knowledge:

  • Strong knowledge in art and design with a focus on Animation.

  • Strong artistic sensibility, a strong sense of design, centered on characters and props for animated productions.

  • Familiarity with the 2D pipeline.

  • Knowledge of Toon Boom Harmony and Photoshop.

Experience:

  • Character and Prop Design for an animated TV Series or Feature (or equivalent).

Technical skills:

  • Drawing within an animation environment.

  • Expert in Toon Boom Harmony with basic knowledge of Photoshop.
