The Strategy & Corporate Development team at George Weston Limited (GWL) plays a crucial role in developing and executing high-priority initiatives for the corporate centre as well as GWL’s operating businesses (Loblaw Companies Limited, and Choice Properties). We offer a unique and exciting blend of projects across Strategy, M&A, and Corporate Finance and our team is comprised of professionals with strategic and transactional expertise. For this role, we are looking for a candidate with astrong background in M&A transaction support, but as an ideal candidate, you will be eager to enhance your skillset and build expertise across all areas that our team covers.

Opportunity:

  • Drive end-to-end M&A transaction initiatives including deal evaluation, structuring, financial analysis, modelling, project management, presentations, diligence, and integration planning
  • Develop and evaluate strategic plans and drive projects for the operating businesses, from analysis, research, financial to operational modeling and presentations
  • Lead project teams and develop junior staff to provide high-quality outputs
  • Act as internal advisor and thought partner for our operating businesses and their senior leadership, developing strong business relationships
  • Interact effectively with internal business managers and external advisors and consultants and guide their work output and objectives – e.g., investment bankers, lawyers, consultants, and accountants

Qualifications:

-Minimum 6-8 years of applicable experience ideally in Investment Banking, M&A, Private Equity, or Transaction-driven Corporate Development roles

  • Strong corporate finance knowledge and financial analysis skills. Experience in complex strategic, valuation and transactional modeling is required
  • Relevant university degree(s) (e.g., Bachelor of Commerce or Business Administration, MBA, Masters of Finance, etc.)
  • CFA, CPA, CBV or other finance designations considered a plus
  • Additional, relevant experience in Consulting, Strategy, Business Development considered a plus
  • Strong written communication and presentation skills
  • Creative problem solving and strong analytical capabilities to address unstructured and complex business strategy questions
  • Project management abilities to support large functional teams and complex projects and transactions
  • Experience in Retail, Food or Consumer Goods industries desirable

  • Demonstrated ability to build effective and trustful relationships across organizations

Hiring Range: Base salary of $160,000 - $185,000 per year, plus applicable bonus and share grants
