As a Capital Project Manager, you will provide project management expertise to facilitate successful project outcomes that are aligned with Partnerships¿ strategic business objectives. You will collaborate with internal and external partners throughout all phases of a project, and you will be accountable for the development and delivery of project requirements. Primary duties include:
- Lead and manage Partnerships projects, with a focus on capital and lifecycle of City-owned assets managed/operated by partners.
- Support the development, review, and analysis of portfolio asset management information including Building Condition Assessments and Asset Management Plans for partner organizations, ensuring lifecycle strategies and supporting documentation align with asset risk, service requirements, and long¿term asset stewardship expectations.
- Use established project management processes to mitigate financial and reputational risk, ensure transparency of public funds, and achieve project objectives
- Coordinate Civic Partners, consultants, contractors, and other vendors, overseeing project planning, scope development, mandatory requirements, budgeting, procurement, and ongoing performance.
- Engage internal and external partners to develop project scopes, schedules, and reporting strategies that align with long-term Partnerships objectives, including master plans.
- Prepare, manage, and support Stage Gate submissions and business cases for senior leadership and coordinate architectural and engineering drawings and specifications to ensure compliance with project requirements.
- Identify and assess infrastructure issues and upgrade opportunities, providing advice and guidance on remediation requirements and determining when a Professional of Record is required.
- Coordinate architects, engineers, and contractors to ensure regulatory requirements are clearly defined, work is procured compliantly, and project status is communicated and reported with internal and external partners.
- Review, manage, and approve project financials, including progress claims, change orders, and internal business unit transfers (IBUT).
- Lead assigned special projects, acting as a subject matter expert with internal business units and external partners, while building strong internal relationships and applying best practices and continuous improvement to achieve results.
Qualifications
- A Journeyperson certificate in HVAC, Plumbing, Electrical, or Carpentry or equivalent interprovincial Red Seal as recognized by the Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training Board and at least 6 years of experience in project management related to the planning and/or execution of building or facilities projects; OR
- A completed 2 year technical diploma in a related discipline and at least 3 years of experience in project management related to the planning and/or execution of building or facilities projects; OR
- A degree in a related field and at least 2 years of experience in project management related to the planning and/or execution of building or facilities projects.
- A valid Class 5 Driver's License (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerits or Graduated Driver's License (GDL) with no more than 4 demerits, and no current suspensions or charges pending. A personal vehicle may be required for business use, or you may be required to obtain a City of Calgary operator's permit.
- A high degree of understanding of contracts, drawings and specifications and a high level of facility construction project management expertise and experience is essential to this role.
- Technical expertise includes understanding and familiarity with consulting responsibilities, Prime Contractor responsibilities, hazardous materials management, construction codes and legislation, permit processes and requirements, construction contracts, vendor management, and contract administration.
- A Project Management Professional (PMP) designation or equivalent professional certification will be considered an asset.
- Excellent communication, collaboration and relationship building skills along with demonstrated problem-solving and strategic decision-making abilities, strong negotiation skills, and issue management skills.

Compensation: Pay Grade 11 $46.21 - 61.78 per hour

Days of work: This position works a 5-day work week with 1 day off in a 3 week cycle.
