About You:
You are a strong, marketing-savvy writer with a good eye for layout and presentation. You are curious and comfortable asking questions to understand complex information, and you enjoy interviewing people, gathering insights and turning what you learn into clear, engaging content.

You have a good sense of how to communicate with different audiences and can adapt tone, format and messaging accordingly. You’re comfortable putting together clean, well-formatted materials (e.g., two-pagers, web content) using basic design tools, even if you don’t have formal design training.

You understand the importance of consistency and take care to ensure materials are well-structured, polished and aligned with brand standards. You’re organized, detail-oriented and able to manage multiple pieces of work at once.

What You’ll Be Doing:
Landscape Ontario delivers a number of workforce development programs such as Water Smart and Fusion, to support skills development and strengthen the landscape trades.

You will support the development of communications materials for these initiatives, with a focus on ensuring they are clear, relevant and tailored to specific audiences.

Reporting to the Director of Communications, with a dotted-line relationship to the Director of Workforce Development, you will work closely with internal teams and external subject matter experts to understand the programs in detail and translate that information into well-structured, audience-focused content. This includes developing print and digital materials and web copy that clearly communicate program value and support engagement across different audiences.

You will also support efforts to elevate Landscape Ontario’s environmental programs through communications, helping ensure they are clearly positioned and relevant to key audiences, including members, the broader landscape trades industry (including non-members), municipalities and the general public (e.g., homeowners). All materials will be developed in alignment with Landscape Ontario’s brand, tone and standards.

What You’ll Be Responsible For:

  • Conduct interviews with internal staff and subject matter experts to understand Water Smart, Fusion and related initiatives
  • Review and assess existing communications materials and identify opportunities for improvement
  • Develop clear, audience-focused content for a range of formats, including web copy and print materials
  • Create targeted “leave-behind” materials for different audiences, including formatting content into clear, visually structured layouts
  • Recommend appropriate formats, channels and tools to support effective communication of program information
  • Contribute to the positioning and communication of Landscape Ontario’s environmental programs, including adapting messaging and materials for members, the broader landscape trades industry, municipalities and the general public
  • Ensure all materials align with Landscape Ontario’s brand, tone and communication standards
  • Support updates and improvements to workforce development web content and social media materials
  • Contribute to the refinement and consistency of messaging across related initiatives
  • Provide additional communications and marketing support as needed

Requirements:

  • University or college student, or recent graduate, in communications, marketing, journalism, public relations or a related field
  • Strong writing and editing skills, with the ability to translate complex information into clear, accessible content
  • Comfortable conducting interviews and synthesizing information from multiple sources
  • Ability to tailor messaging for different audiences
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Proficiency with Google Workspace; experience using basic design tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe) to format and present content is a strong asset
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate with internal teams
  • An interest in landscape horticulture and / or environmental innovations is an asset
