SAIT's Continuing Education and Professional Studies division is seeking a Instructor for our Residential Deep Energy Retrofit (DER) certificate. The courses in this certificate are:

Residential Building Science Fundamentals
-
Residential Deep Energy Retrofit Fundamentals
-
Assessing Homes for Deep Energy Retrofits
-
Deep Energy Retrofit Planning
-
Successful Execution of Deep Energy Retrofits
These courses are delivered through a combination of self-paced, virtual live, and in-person methods of facilitation.
- Please note that this is a casual position. We are not able to guarantee a minimum number of hours per year. Instructors are contacted as opportunities arise.
###Role
During the courses, instructors will be primarily responsible for:
-
Prepare and present engaging lessons, lectures, assignments, quizzes, exams, lab activities and lab demonstrations for learners (if applicable) given the course outlines
-
Evaluate student progress and maintain records for the purposes of grading, assessing professionalism and tracking attendance in both theory and lab classes if given the course outline
-
Manage the classroom or lab to ensure a positive and engaging learning environment
-
Show personal interest in the learner and create a climate conducive to optimal learning
-
Provide on-going support, guidance and advice to students
-
Updating the course(s) homepage with your contact information so students can reach out with their questions directly
-
Adding a welcome message in the Announcements section of the course's home page in Brightspace/D2L, and including your contact information
-
Answering student inquiries in a timely manner
-
Push final grades into Banner no more than 2 days after the student has completed the course.
Other responsibilities during the engagement may include:
-
Maintain records for the purposes of grading of online quizzes, exams and assignments.

Maintain engagement with the responsibilities of this course for the duration of the contract
-
Provide on-going support, guidance and advice to students.
-
Attend all SAIT training as required.
-
Achievement of CEPS initiatives and Objectives
-
Be an active and engaged member of CEPS.
-
Adhere to all safety legislation, guidelines and safety standards as required
-
Maintain contact with relevant industry sectors.
-
All other duties as required for the position.
###Qualifications
- Minimum Bachelor's Degree in related Construction field. An equivalent combination of directly-related education and experience may be considered.
- 2 to 3 year’s knowledge and experience with Construction Management and Deep Energy Retrofit projects
- First-hand knowledge of existing housing in Indigenous communities required
- First-hand knowledge of what employers and industry seek, and how to translate that into course competencies (i.e. knowledge, skills, performance tasks, behaviors)
- Relevant field experience within the last six (6) months
- Knowledge of current industry standards and best practices
- Have strong oral communication required
- Ability to organize and present written information
- Fluent in English reading and vocabulary
- Positive & respectful attitude
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Team player – easy to collaborate and work with
- 2 years of experience in cross-training or teaching is an asset, preferably in Construction
- Experience and fluency with Office 365 (MS Word, Outlook and PowerPoint)
- Experience with videoconferencing technology (MS Teams)
- Experience with a Learning Management System (Brightspace or Moodle) is an asset
- Training and knowledge of adult learning fundamentals
- Formal training or education in facilitation or teaching
- Formal training in online technologies
