Title: Junior Data Engineer
Reports to: Director, Business Intelligence and Data Management
Position Summary The Business Intelligence and Data Management team is seeking a motivated and detail‑oriented Junior Data Engineer to support the development of CAPREIT’s enterprise data repository and help build the foundation for future data integration and analytics capabilities. This role is central to transforming organizational data from an untapped resource into a strategic asset that drives competitive advantage.
You will work with modern cloud technologies, collaborate with data consumers across the business, and contribute to building a scalable, reliable data ecosystem that supports self‑serve analytics and enterprise reporting.
Responsibilities Data Engineering & Pipeline Development
- Build data solutions using Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks, Synapse, Microsoft Fabric, and Power Platform
- Design and develop data pipelines to ingest, transform, and integrate data from a wide range of internal and external sources
- Implement data quality monitoring and validation processes to ensure accuracy, reliability, and consistency
Data Architecture & Optimization
- Support the development and maintenance of CAPREIT’s enterprise data repository and lakehouse environment
- Perform database tuning, application tuning, and performance monitoring to optimize data workflows
- Maintain documentation, standards, and best practices for data engineering processes
Analytics & Business Support
- Work with data consumers to design and implement data solutions that enable analysis and deliver investment‑grade data
- Run ad‑hoc SQL queries, interpret results with business context, and communicate insights to stakeholders
- Support Power BI/Fabric datasets and reporting needs as required
Collaboration & Data Governance
- Build strong working relationships across the organization to promote data as a product and support the establishment of a single source of truth
- Contribute to data governance, metadata management, and data stewardship initiatives
Qualifications Required
- Undergraduate degree in Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
- 1+ years of experience in a business intelligence, data engineering, or related technical role
- Strong experience with the Microsoft Azure Data Stack (Data Factory, Databricks, Synapse, Purview, SQL Server, Data Lake, etc.)
- Advanced understanding of SQL, including complex queries, joins, stored procedures, and views
- Proficiency in Python and Spark (expert‑level preferred)
Preferred / Nice To Have
- Experience with Microsoft Fabric services (Fabric Data Factory, notebooks, pipelines)
- Familiarity with CI/CD practices and Azure DevOps
- Experience supporting Power BI/Fabric datasets and ad‑hoc reporting
- Certifications such as DP‑700 Fabric Data Engineer Associate or AZ‑900 Azure Fundamentals
