The Relief Worker has a multifaceted role, responsible for providing comprehensive emotional support and crisis intervention for clients while ensuring the maintenance and smooth operation of the facility. The Relief Worker is a key resource for supporting clients through trauma-informed practices, managing client cases, and maintaining the facility to meet the needs of the residents.
What you’ll do:
Client Support and Case Management
- Provide crisis intervention and emotional support to clients, ensuring a trauma-informed and survivor-centered approach.
- Conduct client assessments, intakes, and manage case files.
- Assist clients in assessing their situation and provide referrals to appropriate community resources.
- Facilitate safe transitions for clients needing access to the facility.
- Complete risk assessments and develop safety plans, addressing any child-related safety concerns if applicable.
- Maintain accurate client records, document cases of abuse, and ensure up-to-date service delivery records in the database.
- Advocate for clients within the legal system, including guidance on obtaining protection or legal assistance.
- Help clients rebuild self-esteem and independence by connecting them to skill-building resources and leading life-skills sessions.
- Compile and track monthly KPI reports.
- Provide after-hours and weekend support for emergencies, responding to client needs promptly and appropriately.
Facility****Maintenance and Upkeep

Oversee and ensure timely completion of routine maintenance tasks and repairs.

Maintain cleanliness and upkeep of the facility, addressing any issues proactively.

Liaise with contractors for facility repairs and renovations, ensuring quality and timely service delivery.
Donations and Inventory Management
- Manage incoming donations and maintain an organized inventory system.
- Coordinate with community members and organizations to secure additional donations as needed.
Grant Research and Reporting
- Identify and research potential grants to support facility operations.
- Work collaboratively with leadership to apply for and report on grant funding.
Community****Engagement and Collaboration
- Build and maintain relationships with community partners, local businesses, and organizations to support client needs and facility initiatives.
Administrative Responsibilities
- Collect and manage incoming mail, including monitoring the facility's P.O. Box for communications.
- Order and manage transportation through Uber Business, maintaining receipts and ensuring accurate reimbursement processing.

What we're looking for
- Degree or Diploma in a related human/social service field such as Social work or Social service work OR Child and Youth Care Work and one (1) year of recent related experience. Or an equivalent combination of relevant training, education, and experience.
- Social perception to work with individuals who have difficulty expressing their needs.
- Demonstrated skills in case management, assessment, and intervention, writing case notes, advocacy, conflict resolution techniques, mediation, de-escalation skills and non-violent crisis management.
- Knowledge of crisis-intervention methodologies.
- Ability to compromise, negotiate, and work well with others.
- Current First Aid/CPR Certificate is an asset.
- Access to a reliable vehicle is an asset.
- Successful candidates must provide a satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check prior to commencing employment.
