About the role

Description

The Department of Psychiatry, in partnership with the Hotchkiss Brain Institute, in the Cumming School of Medicine, University of Calgary, invite applications for the Novartis Chair in Schizophrenia Research. The successful candidate will be appointed to a Contingent Term appointment at the rank of Professor.

The successful candidate will establish an active research program, integrated with clinical care during the unique developmental periods defined by childhood, adolescence, and emerging adulthood. They will lead an and innovative clinical research program combining data from multiple levels of analysis in the prediction of treatment or disease outcomes in children and adolescents being treated for mental health disorders or impact of the trajectory of illness.  The ability to interact with existing research groups (focused on child or youth mental health) is required.

Qualifications

  • MD and more than five years of additional research experience.
  • An advanced degree and post‑doctoral research experience is required.
  • Evidence of a track record of publications in high‑quality journals.
  • Ability to collaborate, lead a research team, and effectiveness in teaching at the University level.
  • Evidence of a strong publication record and ability to attract peer‑reviewed funding.
  • Ability to develop a productive, externally funded research program and fit with one or more of the ten Brain and Mental Health Teams of the HBI (link).

The position provides 70% protected time for research and includes expectations to contribute to teaching as well as service to the department, faculty, Institute or University, particularly as this relates to advancing the area of child and adolescent mental health.
