Role Description The Owner at the Centre for Teaching Excellence is a full-time, on-site leadership role located in Waterloo, ON, responsible for setting the strategic direction and overseeing day-to-day operations of the centre. This role involves guiding the development of teaching support programs, ensuring alignment with institutional priorities, and fostering a culture of pedagogical innovation and inclusivity. The Owner collaborates closely with faculty, academic leaders, and professional staff to identify teaching and learning needs, allocate resources, and evaluate the impact of services and initiatives. Daily responsibilities include making data-informed decisions, supervising and mentoring team members, managing budgets and projects, and representing the centre in internal and external committees. The role also requires maintaining strong relationships across the university community and advocating for best practices in teaching and learning. Qualifications Demonstrated leadership experience in an academic or educational development setting, including strategic planning, team management, and program oversight. Strong background in teaching and learning in higher education, with knowledge of evidence-informed pedagogy, curriculum development, and assessment of learning. Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, and administrators across diverse disciplines. Proven ability to manage budgets, oversee projects, and use data and feedback to evaluate and improve programs and services. Advanced degree in education, educational development, higher education, or a related field; a doctoral degree is an asset. Experience promoting inclusive, accessible, and equitable learning environments, and familiarity with universal design for learning and related frameworks. Ability to thrive in an on-site, campus-based environment, balancing strategic responsibilities with hands-on operational oversight.
