The Field Surveying Services division in Capital Planning and Business Services business unit is looking for a Project Engineer/Land Surveyor to join their team. You will be responsible for delivering professional geomatics engineering and professional land surveying services to the staff and clients of the division. You will also provide technical guidance and direction to surveying staff ensuring that all projects are completed in accordance with engineering and land surveying standards and requirements. Primary duties include:

  • Manage and lead complex geomatics engineering and land surveying projects providing direction and control of the practice of land surveying including boundary surveys, survey plans, and survey control operations.
  • Prepare, check, approve and authenticate survey plans and professional geomatic products.
  • Provide professional opinions, coaching, education and guidance on surveying concepts, methodologies, computations, and processing.
  • Provide quality assurance and troubleshoot issues encountered with geospatial data, software and equipment.
  • Research, design, test and implement innovative surveying technology solutions including improved methodologies, equipment advancements and new software.
  • Prepare and deliver project reports, business cases, proposals, presentations, and recommendations to support geomatics engineering and land surveying projects.
  • Develop standard operating procedures, standard work instructions, and best practices for geomatics engineering and land surveying operations.

Qualifications

  • An engineering degree in Geomatics, Surveying, or very closely related discipline.
  • You must have at least 4 years of relevant professional engineering experience obtained after receiving your P. Eng. designation and a current licensure as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) complete with practicing status OR licensure and practicing status by the first day of work.
  • Registration as an active Alberta Land Surveyor (A.L.S.) with Alberta Land Surveyors Association (ALSA) or licensure by the first day of work.
  • Experience in municipal and public works projects, including significant experience delivering urban land surveying and survey control projects, is strongly preferred.
  • A valid Class 5 Driver's License (or provincial equivalency) with no more than 6 demerits OR a Class 5 Graduated Driver's License (GDL) with no more than 4 demerits, along with the ability to obtain a City of Calgary operator's permit.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in surveying- related software applications such as MicroSurvey and Trimble Business Center (TBC).

  • Applicants will be tested for appropriate skills.
  • Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications.

Workstyle

  • This position may be eligible to work from home for at least part of the time as one of several flexible work options available to City employees. These arrangements depend on the operational requirements of the role, employee suitability, and are subject to change based on operational needs and corporate direction.

Compensation: Level P3E 115,464 - 144,330 per annum

Hours of work: Standard 35 hour work week.

Days of work: This position works a 5-day work week with 1 day off in a 3 week cycle.
