Why is this role important?
The Senior Analyst plays a key role in supporting data management activities related to the development and modernization of analytical data assets within CIHI’s cloud-based open-source environment.
This role provides technical and methodological support in transforming data for analysis, implementing data management solutions, and applying best practices in cloud-based data engineering and analytical data pipelines, while fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange among key stakeholders.
What you'll do

Develop and maintain a detailed knowledge of CIHI data sources including reporting standards, data processes and methods, data management practices, related analytical/information products, and cloud-based storage and table structures supporting analytical workloads (e.g. AWS S3, Iceberg tables).

Work with the Program Lead to design, develop and maintain analytical data pipelines and associated data catalogues within AWS, including services such as AWS MWAA, Glue and other related data processing tools.

Conduct data management activities including writing and updating analytical and data transformation code required for the development, analysis and verification of key deliverables, including reusable, production-ready data transformation pipelines.

Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry best practices in data and metadata management, including cloud-based data engineering and lakehouse architecture.

Support metadata management for data assets, including data classification, lineage and metadata associated with cloud-based analytical tables and pipelines.

Participate in the development and delivery of internal education and knowledge exchange sessions relating to data management, cloud data platforms and data engineering practices.
What you'll bring to the table
- Undergraduate degree in Health Information, Informatics, Data Science, Computing Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Biostatistics or a related field.
- 3-5 years related experience in data engineering and data management, including designing, developing, and maintaining data pipelines in cloud-based environments to support analytics and reporting needs.
- Advanced experience using Python and PySpark to manipulate data and draw insights from large datasets, including building and maintaining data transformation workflows.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Experience working with cloud-based data platforms, preferably AWS, including S3, Glue, MWAA.
- Experience working with data governance technologies, access controls and metadata management tools within a cloud-based environment is an asset.
- Strong conceptual and problem-solving skills, with excellent attention to detail.
- Strong verbal communication skills; strong analytical and technical writing skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a matrix environment with minimal supervision.
- Proven organizational and time management skills, with an ability to manage multiple projects and priorities effectively to meet deadlines.
- Experience with CIHI or other health-related data sources.
- Knowledge of the healthcare system.
- Experience with modern table formats such as Apache Iceberg or similar technologies is an asset.
- Must comply with all CIHI workplace policies, including privacy and confidentiality.
- Fluency in English is required, bilingualism in both official languages is an asset.
