The Research Coordinator II collaborates with investigators and the research team to support and lead the coordination and management of clinical research studies for the Department of Oncology at the Verspeeten Family Cancer Centre at Victoria Hospital. In addition to coordinating study activities, the Research Coordinator II is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of research projects, ensuring the successful execution of research protocols from study start-up through to closeout. This includes overseeing study activation, project planning, implementation, and ongoing project management, while ensuring compliance with study objectives, institutional policies, ICH/GCP guidelines, and applicable regulatory requirements.

The Research Coordinator II liaises regularly with patients, clinical and research staff, and external stakeholders to facilitate study conduct, while ensuring adherence to research protocols, institutional policies, and regulatory standards. The successful candidate must be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously, work effectively under pressure, and adapt to changing priorities and timelines. Strong organizational, leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills are essential.

Rate of Pay: $38.09-$47.60

Hours of Work: 37.5 hours per week

Duration: 1 year (possibility for renewal)

Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • Coordinating Study Activation activities
  • Identifying and recruiting study participants (e.g., screening, informed consent)
  • Coordinating and overseeing study visit schedules, and executing or supervising all aspects of study visits (e.g., adverse event assessment, safety monitoring, medication administration, questionnaires, and biological sample collection, processing, and shipment in accordance with study protocols).
  • Oversight of data collection, source documentation, and database management (e.g., REDCap), ensuring data quality and integrity.
  • Tracking study progress and expenditures, maintaining study documentation and accounts, and preparing regular reports.

Qualifications

  • Successful completion of a recognized Undergraduate degree in a relevant and/or related field
  • Minimum of (3) years recent and relevant clinical research experience, preferably with experience confidentially handling patient data
  • Able to handle multiple projects simultaneously, be able to work under pressure, and have the flexibility to adjust to changing schedules and deadlines
  • Previous experience with Cerner Powerchart and REDCap is preferred
  • Working knowledge, or ideally prior experience, in Human Research Ethics, Tri-council policy, Good Clinical Practices, Health Canada and FDA regulations an asset
  • Experience with grant writing and manuscript submissions is preferred
  • Able to implement and coordinate aspects a small clinical study including coordination, data and sample collection
  • Ability to organize workload and manage daily competing priorities in a health care environment
  • Effective communication skills to foster a respectful, inclusive and collaborative environment
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to the principles of patient- and family-centered care
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to patient and staff safety at LHSC
  • Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis
