Hourly Rate: $16.50

Hours: The hours vary, but weekend shifts are mandatory. We are current recruiting for: afternoon shifts (10:00am-6:30pm/12:30pm-9:00pm shifts). What we offer:

Who We Are:

Heritage Park is Canada's largest living history museum and offers visitors a chance to experience life in Western Canada from the 1860s to the early 1950s. The Park features historical buildings, costumed interpreters, working antiques, and various exhibits that provide insight into the region's past.

Job Overview:

Under the direction of the Custodial and Event Support Assistant Manager, leads assigned crew to clean designated buildings/exhibits. Provides guidance and support to assigned crew with special event and catered event set-ups.

Responsibilities:

Custodial and Event Support

  • Obtain and return keys and radios at the beginning and end of each shift, ensuring proper security and accountability
  • Collaborate with the Assistant Manager to plan and delegate tasks, ensuring that all setups and operations meet client needs and adhere to function sheets and event operation plans (MOPS)
  • Assist with administrative duties, including managing time sheets, creating schedules, and handling the purchasing and requisitioning of supplies
  • Train and mentor staff on their duties, emphasizing safety procedures and the correct operation of machinery
  • Inform the team of their work assignments and log daily activities to ensure efficient completion of tasks
  • Operate cleaning machines and auto scrubbers, arrange for repairs and servicing as needed, and ensure the cleanliness of all designated buildings, exhibits, and washrooms
  • Coordinate major cleaning projects, such as spring and fall cleaning
  • Monitor and maintain an adequate stock of cleaning supplies throughout the Park
  • Oversee and maintain a safe working environment, ensuring compliance with safety protocols and practices
  • Perform other duties are required

  • Contribute to inspiring and immersive experiences at the Park through your roles and responsibilities by engaging in Heritage Park initiatives that align with the overall mission and vision of the Park
  • Demonstrate commitment to workplace health and safety by complying with Heritage Park's Health, Safety and Environment Management System (HSEMS), following safe work practices, reporting work-related incidents, injuries and hazards, participating in employer training, and adhering policies including the Code of Conduct and the Workplace Violence and Harassment Policy
  • Actively support a positive work environment through creating an atmosphere of inclusion, engagement and fulfillment in line with Heritage Park values
  • Demonstrate responsible stewardship of our people, collections and financial assets by ensuring that they are handled with integrity, sustainability, and a focus on long-term benefits for the organization and its stakeholders

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent. Post-secondary training in the hospitality area would be an asset
  • Minimum of one year of previous experience in custodial and event support or related hospitality roles
  • Leadership and supervisory skills to provide support to custodial staff
  • A valid Alberta Class 5 driver’s license is preferred
  • WHMIS Certification or willingness to obtain
  • Able to assist with product ordering and staff/volunteer scheduling
  • Strong customer service skills with a friendly and courteous demeanour
  • Effective communication skills for interactions with guests, staff, and volunteers
  • All successful candidates (over 18) will be required to go through a Police Information Check as a condition of employment.

Special Clothing and Equipment:

  • Appropriate costuming and safety equipment will be provided by Heritage Park; and
  • Footwear, as designated by the Heritage Park Costume Department, will be provided by the employee.

Special Working Conditions:

  • The position will be exposed to weather extremes and will work both indoors and outdoors, and
  • This position is physically demanding, and the incumbent must have the ability to lift heavy items (approximately 50lbs), stand for long periods of time and walk throughout the Park for extended periods

Hours of Work:

  • Varies based on operational needs
  • Weekend shifts mandatory
  • Shifts are 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. or 12:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., depending on the time of year

October to May is the Park’s winter operating season, during which you can explore the rare collection of vintage vehicles and petroliana in Gasoline Alley Museum and the charming shops and restaurants in the Heritage Town Square free zone, located before the Park gates. In the summer operating season, from May to October, the Heritage Town Square free zone, Gasoline Alley Museum and the bustling Historical Village are all open.
