Position Summary

Reporting to the Public Education Officer, you will conduct various activities in support of fire prevention, public education, department goals and objectives, and special projects.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Development and delivery of community fire and life safety education programs

Conducting community risk analyses Coordinating fire service participation at special events, and programs Assist in the development and maintenance of an effective public relations strategy

Education and Experience

NFPA 1035 L1 Public Education certification

NFPA 1031 L1 Fire Inspector certification

Ontario Fire and Life Safety Educator's Association member eligible is required

Post-secondary degree or diploma in communications, social media relations and/or marketing, NFPA 1041 L1 Instructor is an asset 1-3 years in a fire service directly responsible for the delivery of fire and life safety education/programming

Required Skills/Knowledge

Demonstrated aptitude for public education, and life safety education duties including commitment to customer service excellence Excellent written and verbal communication/presentation skills, together with an aptitude for word processing, social media messaging, risk analysis and strategic program evaluation Excellent organizational and effective team-based, environment abilities Meet normal colour vision and acuity standards Must be and willing and able to transport yourself to City work sites as required (mileage compensated). Physically able to climb stairs and ladders, kneel, bend and walk for prolonged hours, lift and carry objects of varying weights May be required to work flexible hours to attend &/or support community public fire and life safety events Requires satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check Demonstrate the City’s corporate values of care, collaboration, courage and service Demonstrates good judgment and makes sound decisions Shows commitment to personal growth, development, and leadership opportunities Shares new ideas and challenges the status quo Proven written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate with honesty, openness, respect, and trust Takes initiative to participate in a culture of learning, mentoring, and sharing Contributes to building and being a part of a positive culture
