What is the opportunity?
As Senior Director, Corporate Client Group (CCG) Finance you are an integral part of the regional Senior Management Team (SMT). You will lead a team of client-facing credit experts aligned to our Large Commercial segment within CCG, defined as commercial clients with annual sales revenue typically between $25MM and $200MM and total exposure between $10MM and $50MM.
You play a key role in realizing our business objectives through the coaching, development and support of your team in their delivery of complex credit solutions and active client and portfolio management. You develop and foster strong relationships with clients and internal partners to facilitate early engagement on new credit deals and help navigate transactions through the end-to-end credit process, including escalations in a collaborative manner.
What will you do?
- Lead a team of high performing underwriters in the delivery of quality credit products and best-in-class advice to RBC clients and prospects. Provide coaching and advice on deal structure, encouraging creative and customized solutions. In coordination with key partners, ensure high standards are maintained, specifically in the preparation and presentation of pitches to clients, internally throughout the credit approval and executions process, as well as related to turnaround times and client experience.
- Actively develop, strengthen and deepen client relationships and engagement with key partners, including within CCG , GRM and Operations.
- Ensure strong business routines are in place to proactively identify clients who would benefit from credit advice and solutions.
- Serve as a one-up escalation point for credit transactions originated by the Finance team.
- Provide oversight of all aspects of the credit approval process including Commitments Committee and GRM discussions. Work collaboratively with partners within CCG to ensure appropriate client coverage relative to each group’s core capabilities.
- Lead and ensure a strong culture of risk management and compliance is in place, including quality of discovery and credit underwriting, the enhancement of, and adherence to rigorous credit processes, compliance standards as well as robust and proactive portfolio management, including covenant monitoring and control.
- Ensure strong talent management routines are in place including training and development plans for each underwriter/credit specialist. Maintain an active pipeline of talent to meet future team requirements from both growth and turnover.
- Participate actively in the National Large Commercial community of practice by sharing best practices and competitive insights, profiling successful deals, and contributing to overall corporate knowledge.
What do you need to succeed?
Must-have
- Previous people management experience/leadership of high performing teams
- Minimum ten years’ of broad experience in large credit ($10MM+) commercial lending at a major financial institution
- Graduate degree in Business, Economics, Accounting, or Finance with strong quantitative, financial modeling, and analytical skills, as well as an ability to analyze company financial statements
- Strong skills with Microsoft Office, as well as experience with emerging resources, communications and technology
- Professional verbal and written communication skills with a high level of attention to detail in both written work and financial analysis
- Strong organizational skills, ability to perform well under pressure, manage multiple tasks while meeting time sensitive deadlines
Nice-to-have
- MBA, CPA or CFA
- Proven solid track record in financial and credit analysis/structuring capabilities and exceptional client relationship management
