About the role
As the Project Control Specialist, you are responsible for supporting project performance analysis by integrating cost, schedule, and progress data. The role focuses on analysis, validation, and recommendations to support the Project Controls Manager (PCM) and stakeholders in decision-making.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Monitor and analyse project performance using cost, schedule, and Earned Value Management (EVM) metrics (CPI, SPI), ensuring alignment with project controls processes and project management requirements.
- Establish and track project performance indicators, with a primary focus on EVM and productivity; escalate significant findings to the Project Controls Manager and Project Manager as appropriate.
- Validate data consistency and integrity between cost, schedule, and progress across systems, supporting but not leading project delivery functions.
- Contribute to forecasting activities (EAC, ETC) through performance analysis and trend evaluation; provide data and recommendations for management review.
- Support change control monitoring and provide analytical input as required.
- Provide accurate and timely performance status reports, highlighting deviations, root causes, and recommended corrective actions for management consideration.
- Prepare performance reports and highlight risks, variances, and opportunities for review by the Project Controls Manager and Project Manager.
- Support the Project Controls Manager (PCM) in project control activities, reporting, and performance analysis
- Support and provides technical input in the development and improvement of project control tools, dashboards, and reporting (e.g., Power BI, Oracle ERP)
- Support continuous improvement initiatives in project controls processes, working collaboratively with other project team members.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, business administration or a related field is preferred.
- 8+ years of experience in project controls (especially cost engineering), preferably within ship repair, shipbuilding, marine, or other complex industrial project environments.
- Strong knowledge of Earned Value Management (EVM) and project performance analysis.
- Experience with project control systems (e.g., Oracle ERP ) and data/reporting tools (e.g., Power BI ).
- Advanced proficiency in MS Excel
- Analytical and detail-oriented
- Strong data interpretation and reporting skills
- Systems-oriented mindset with attention to data integrity
- Collaborative and proactive approach
- Good communication skills
- Proficiency in French and English (written and spoken). Fluency in English is required for this position, as you will interact with English-speaking suppliers, stakeholders or clients.
- Successful completion of the security screening process and obtainment of the required security clearance under the Federal Government’s Contract Security Program (minimum of 5 years of residency in Canada, with no interruption of 6 consecutive months.
