Hiring Unit:
Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Financial Affairs
Position Summary:
We are seeking a Work-Study Student to support our finance team with accounting and administrative tasks. This role is ideal for a current student pursuing studies in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field, who is looking to gain hands-on experience in a professional environment.
Under the direction of the Finance Officer, Reporting Financial Affairs the incumbent may perform some or all of the listed general accounting functions. These functions are of high complexity and the incumbent performs them using general instruction.
(i.) Processes specific accounting transactions via bookkeeping and expense claims. Assist in the
preparation of specific reports and provides administrative assistance with budget preparation.
(ii.) Enters journal transactions. Prepares deposits and payment requisitions for approval.
(iii.) Responds to specific inquiries regarding accounting transactions and supports departments in resolving related issues.
(iv.) Supports department in assisting internal and external parties with balances and expense
reports.
(v.) Responds to general inquiries within area of responsibility and file requests. Follows up as required.
(vi.) Provides support with record keeping.
The list of functions outlined above is representative and not a complete and detailed list of tasks which may be performed by an incumbent.
Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities:
- Currently enrolled in an Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field
- Proficiency in general accounting principles
- Experience with entering journal entries and processing transactions
- Knowledge of preparing deposits, payment requisitions, and expense claims
- Familiarity with budget preparation and financial reporting
- Ability to review and reconcile account balances and expense reports
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills (formulas, pivot tables, data entry)
- Ability to respond to internal and external inquiries professionally
- Customer service orientation when supporting departments
- Ability to work collaboratively across teams
- High level of accuracy and attention to details
Additional Information:
This is a work-study position open to eligible students as per institutional guidelines.
