Position Summary
The Environmental Services Supervisor works with the Support Services leadership and reports to the Manager of Environmental Services and Logistics. This role is responsible for the organization and supervision of the day-to-day support services functions, oversight of the support services employees and ensures that established policies and procedures are adhered to.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
- Plans, organizes, and supervises the activities of Environmental Services to ensure that an efficient and continuous services is developed and maintained. Defines and schedules their respective duties and reviews vacation requests.
- Monitors staff attendance and deals with attendance issues in accordance with the Hospital's Attendance Support Program.
- Completes performance appraisals and any required disciplinary action in conjunction with the Manager of Environmental Services and Logistics.
- Provides training and coaching to all Environmental Services staff to ensure that staff are performing their functions in an efficient and consistent manner.
- Ensures all staff follow departmental policies and procedures and acts as a resource for staff for the efficient operation of the department.
- Participates in product evaluation activities to ensure compliance with hospital policies.
- Completion of quality audits on a consistent basis in compliance with PIDAC standards.
- Manage quality records, documentation, and reporting systems.
- Investigate audit findings, quality issues and/or complaints ensuring appropriate resolution and corrective action are taken.
- Monitor and ensure all mandatory training it up to date within the department.
- Participates in special projects, committees and other duties as assigned.
Department/Unit/Program Description
The Environmental Services Department strives to ensure a clean and safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff. The duties of the department are carried out to the highest possible standard in accordance with infection prevention and control best practices.
Essential Qualifications
- College diploma in a recognized program in Healthcare Housekeeping/Laundry/Linen Services or equivalent combination of education and work experience
- Completion of the Ontario Hospital Association (OHA) Environmental Services Leadership course
- Minimum three (3) years current experience in a leadership capacity in a unionized environment
- Proficient in software applications (e.g. Microsoft Office, Epic)
- Demonstrated effective communication skills with all levels of staff, patients, and the public
- Demonstrated experience completing and analysing quality audits in compliance with PIDAC standards
- Demonstrated knowledge of electronic scheduling system is an asset
- Demonstrated knowledge of WHMIS, the Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations and CSA and PIDAC standards as they relate to Healthcare Environmental Services
- Demonstrated organizational, analytical, and time management skills
- Ability to determine whether requests for immediate service have health & safety implications
- Demonstrated knowledge of the Green Energy Act and Regulations and Environmentally Friendly Concepts and Strategies
- Demonstrated strong leadership, coaching and motivational skills
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment with continually changing priorities
- Demonstrated familiarity with the operation of contracts
- Demonstrated positive work record, good attendance record and ability to do on-call
- Must be able to fulfill the physical requirements of the jobs, as per the current Physical Demands Analysis
Hours of Work
Hours of work for this position are 37.5 hours/week, Monday to Friday, plus a rotational on-call schedule. Flexibility of hours of work is required and is based on department needs.
