ABOUT THE ROLE The Estimator position will work in a team environment to support the sales department in bidding projects in GEA. This role is responsible for the preparation and documentation of cost estimates and proposals for commercial and industrial projects. WHAT YOU’LL ACCOMPLISH
Monitor construction bidding platforms to identify and evaluate project opportunities aligned with the company's product lines and strategic objectives. Review and analyze blueprints, specifications, and bid documents to determine project requirements, scope, and estimating considerations. Perform detailed quantity take-offs and develop accurate cost estimates by obtaining current market pricing for materials, equipment, labor, and subcontracted services. Collaborate with engineering, production, and erection teams to develop comprehensive labor, material, and equipment inputs for project estimates. Prepare, submit, and track competitive bids, budgets, and proposals, ensuring all submissions are completed accurately and within established deadlines. Participate in weekly workload and bid review meetings, providing updates on estimate progress, upcoming opportunities, and resource requirements. Work closely with Project Managers to evaluate change orders, notices, and scope modifications, verifying associated cost impacts and supporting project execution. Administer project startup activities for awarded contracts, including customer and project setup in SAP and the seamless handoff of successful projects to the project management team. Build and maintain strong relationships with subcontractors, suppliers, architects, engineers, consultants, and clients while supporting project teams in resolving scope-related issues throughout the project lifecycle. Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to health, safety and environmental policies in all work environments and areas. Promote a culture of safety and exhibit these behaviors.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOREducation: A diploma in Civil Engineering (preferred) or architectural technology, or business administration Required Work Experience: A combination of educational background along with skills / and work experience will be considered. Previous estimating, project management and / or field supervisory experience is a strong plus. Additional Requirements:
Strong math skills in order to develop accurate quantity take-offs and material volumes Ability to read and understand architectural and structural drawings and project specifications Ability to multi-task and work on several projects at once Excellent organizational and communication skills, strong attention to detail Self starter who is comfortable working in a fast paced environment Experience using Bid2Win, Bluebeam, Tekla, Revit and SAP is an asset. Experienced and competent using MS Office applications (excel & word) Approved Personal Protection Equipment ("PPE"), including but not limited to respirators. Employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests.
