EHS Specialist
About the role
Essential Functions:
Health & Safety Leadership
- Promote and enforce all company health and safety policies, procedures, and standards
- Lead workplace injury and incident reduction initiatives through proactive hazard identification and mitigation
- Conduct Risk Assessments and Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) to identify and control workplace hazards
- Complete and maintain Physical Demands Analyses for roles within the facility
- Ensure compliance all applicable regulations
Training and Development
- Develop, coordinate, and deliver EHS training programs (e.g., WHMIS, LOTO, emergency response, equipment operation)
- Arrange and track all required employee safety training and certifications
- Ensure employees are First Aid trained or scheduled for certification as required
- Maintain accurate training records and compliance documentation
Incident Management & WSIB
- Lead incident investigations and root cause analysis
- Manage WSIB reporting, claims, and return-to-work coordination
- Maintain accurate injury and illness records and ensure timely reporting
- Identify trends and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence
Joint Health & Safety Committee (JHSC)
- Lead and coordinate JHSC activities, including:

- Scheduling and organizing meetings
- Preparing agendas and minutes
- Tracking and closing action items
- Support and manage work refusals in accordance with all legal requirements
- Ensure legislative compliance of JHSC structure and activities
Inspections & Audits
- Conduct and document regular workplace inspections, including:

- Racking systems
- Floor conditions and housekeeping
- Support internal and external EHS audits and ensure corrective actions are implemented
- Maintain audit readiness at all times
Environmental Management
- Ensure compliance with all environmental legislation and corporate policies
- Complete environmental reporting (e.g., using systems such as Sephera)
- Oversee and manage waste streams, including hazardous waste and recycling programs
- Support pollution prevention and sustainability initiatives
General EHS Support
- Coordinate and support industrial hygiene monitoring programs
- Ensure proper handling, storage, and use of hazardous materials
- Maintain compliance with corporate EHS standards and policies
- Act as a key resource for supervisors and employees on all EHS-related matters
- Recognize and reinforce safe behaviours
- Address unsafe behaviours immediately
- Maintain high standards of PPE compliance and housekeeping
- Actively engage employees in safety discussions and initiatives
- Maintain strong visibility on the shop floor
- Demonstrate a genuine commitment to employee health and safety
- Monitor, analyze, and report on key EHS metrics (e.g., Voxel, SWaT, Yale systems)
- Provide trend analysis and actionable insights to leadership
- Develop and implement continuous improvement initiatives based on data

Qualifications Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Safety Engineering, or a related field
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment (unionized environment preferred)
- Strong knowledge of Ontario health and safety legislation
- Experience with WSIB claims management and reporting
- Demonstrated ability to lead Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) activities
- Strong training and facilitation skills (classroom and shop floor)
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Experience with ISO systems and auditing practices
- Knowledge of industrial hygiene and environmental compliance
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, 24/5 operation
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills
- Professional certifications (e.g., CRSP) considered an asset
Salary: $48,666-$66,742
The Salary Range posted represents Pilkington North America’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the possible compensation at the time of the posting. Individual pay will vary based on demonstrated job related skills, knowledge, experience, education, etc.
