About the role

We’re looking for a skilledProduction Engineerto join our Shipyard Production Engineering team. In this role, you’ll help design and plan the processes, tools, and equipment required to support safe, efficient, and high‑quality ship repair, construction, and commissioning activities.

This is a hands-on, impact-driven position where your engineering expertise directly supports the production floor - everything from lifting and handling plans to temporary services engineering. If you’re passionate about shipbuilding, problem-solving, and enabling safe execution in a complex industrial environment, this role could be a perfect fit.

  • Develop Manufacturing Instructions, jigs, fixtures, and templates for the River-Class Destroyer Program.

  • Review, approve, and socialize Operations (OPS) Vendor Furnished Information (VFI) including Installation Instructions and Care and Protection Instructions.

  • Reviewing Production Drawings for accuracy and constructability.

  • Support junior team members with technical guidance, oversight, and development. Review Production Engineering outputs of other team members.

  • Engage with internal business stakeholders including Production, Planning, Facilities, Platform/Combat Engineering, Scheduling, and Supply Chain.

  • Identify opportunities for Continuous Improvement within their Engineering Discipline.

  • Identify and manage mitigation plans for risks associated with their Engineering Discipline.

  • Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.) or equivalent. -Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation required.

  • Applied experience with exposure to hull/machinery/accommodation piping, electrical outfitting, and / or steel outfitting.

  • 4+ years experience in ship design or construction or relevant complex industrial and manufacturing environment

  • Strong understanding of Shipbuilding production, planning, material requirements, facility / resource capacity.

  • Knowledge and genuine interest of naval / modern ship design and construction methods.

  • Expert knowledge and application of maritime regulatory authorities (LR, TC, IMO, etc.) and other industry standards (e.g. ASME, IEEE, ASTM, etc.) applicable to job posting.

  • Experience as a cognizant engineer (or system / technical owner) over one or more ship’s systems or shipyard functions, or design functions.

  • Demonstrated ability to read blueprints, navigate 3D model and/or simulations, develop & markup drawings, develop presentations and reports, develop technical specifications, perform investigation on complex issues.

  • High proficiency with AutoCad (2D/3D), MS Office suite of software and Adobe Pro.

Due to the nature of work Irving Shipbuilding does, all successful applicants must meet requirements for the Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), Canadian Government Security clearance, and U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).

Please note this position requires a full-time, in-office presence.
