About the role

Duties and Responsibilities:

Responsible for supporting the Director, Labour Relations (Academic) in the day-to-day operational requirements of the department. The incumbent will provide research and recommendations regarding the interpretation of collective agreements; will coordinate various academic labour relations initiatives; will assist with gathering information related to grievances; and will assist in the preparation for and coordination of joint union-management committees. May assist with providing situational analysis. Expected to support activities related to negotiating, maintaining, and ensuring adherence to the university's collective bargaining agreements.

Qualifications:

The incumbent must possess the following qualifications:

  • Knowledge of relevant governing legislation, collective agreements, policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of the broader university academic units, departments, and divisions
  • Knowledge of office productivity software and databases, internet browsers and search engines, discipline-specific software, enterprise software, and technology devices
  • Ability to write/amend documents that accurately capture issue(s).
  • Ability to use independent judgement and to manage and impart confidential information.
  • Ability to analyze complex information, and to define and solve problems.
  • Ability to investigate and analyze claims information and to draw conclusions.
  • Ability to gather data, compile information and prepare reports.
  • Knowledge of current and emerging legislation, issues and trends as appropriate to the position.

Education and Experience:

The above is normally acquired through the completion of:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in human resources or related field
  • Minimum of three years of previous labour relations and human resources program and service experience.
