About the role
Comact is a North American leader in the design and manufacturing of equipment for wood processing mills. The company primarily serves the North American market, in addition to serving international clients. Comact offers the most comprehensive range of products on the market. Producing everything from mechanical equipment, PLCs and optimization systems equipped with digital vision scanners. Our products also deliver fully automated production lines. The company has over 1500 employees working in our divisions located across North America.
Based out of our Comact US office, the Safety Coordinator will report to the General Manager of Safety for Comact projects, and the site Project Manager. The individual will be responsible for facilitating the needs of the customer site, This Includes, but not limited to ordering, and, receiving material at the job site and providing material coordination, completing time cards for site employees and overseeing safety practices.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Primary focus is to uphold OSHA and Company safety standards on Comact Construction job sites
- Be a leader and role model for safety
- Be willing and able to perform weekly safety meetings in front of large crowds
- Able to train employees on various tasks
- Be involved in incident investigations and prepare all incident forms
- Responsible for overseeing sub-contractor safety
- This job requires 80 to 90 percent boots on the ground in the field
- Daily & weekly safety meetings
- Weekly safety inspections
- Other duties to be assigned
NOTE: Travel, weekend, and shift work is required
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma or G.E.D required
- Sawmill industry knowledge is an asset
- Good communication skills
- Microsoft Word, Excel, & Outlook skills
- Construction experience is an asset
- Teamwork oriented
- Ability to work in a fast-paced high-speed environment
- Ability to exercise good judgment
- Self-motivation, taking initiative to make improvements
