Position Summary
The Manager, Donor Engagement & Stewardship is a key member of the Lake of the Woods District Hospital Foundation team, reporting to the Executive Director. This role is responsible for building and sustaining long-term relationships with donors by delivering exceptional stewardship, personalized communication, and meaningful recognition. The Manager will develop and execute strategies that deepen donor engagement, enhance loyalty, and support philanthropic growth across all levels of giving, including annual giving programs and campaigns. Working closely with the Executive Director, this position ensures that donors are informed of the impact of their contributions and are inspired to continue supporting the Foundation’s mission of enhancing local healthcare.

Responsibilities (including but not limited to):

  • Develop and implement donor stewardship plans across all giving levels, ensuring timely acknowledgment, reporting, and impact updates

  • Plan, execute, and evaluate annual giving programs and campaigns to drive donor engagement, retention, and revenue growth

  • Manage recognition programs (naming opportunities, donor walls, annual reports, special recognition events)

  • Work closely with the Executive Director to identify and cultivate major gift and planned giving prospects

  • Coordinate with Communications Consultant to prepare donor impact stories, case for support materials, and personalized reports

  • Create and maintain donor profiles, tracking giving history and engagement in the donor database

  • Support third-party event donors/partners with stewardship follow-up and engagement opportunities

  • Collaborate on strategy for annual appeals and campaigns, ensuring donor retention and pipeline development

Experience and Qualifications:

  • University degree or community college diploma in a related field or equivalent background in fundraising, administrative, communications and/or public relations

  • 3–5 years’ experience in fundraising, donor relations, or partnership role

  • Strong communication, relationship-building, and project management skills

  • Detail-oriented with experience using fundraising/CRM databases

  • Demonstrated ability to write persuasively and present donor impact

  • Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Office suite

  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to meet multiple and competing priorities

  • Highly professional, acts with integrity

  • A valid driver’s license is required and access to a vehicle

  • Flexibility to work some evenings/weekends as required

  • Exemplary interpersonal skills; and adept at building positive, professional relationships

About Lake of the Woods District Hospital

The Lake of the Woods District Hospital was founded in 1897, and was originally known as the Rat Portage Jubilee Hospital and then the Kenora General Hospital. Through the years a series of additions and renovations took place to meet the expanding needs of the population. On May 1, 1968, the St. Joseph's Hospital and the Kenora General Hospital amalgamated to form the Lake of the Woods District Hospital. Treating well over 30,000 people per year, Lake of the Woods District Hospital is Northwestern Ontario's largest hospital outside of Thunder Bay.

The Hospital's core programs include emergency and ambulatory care, chronic care, mental health, maternal and child health, and acute care services which include general medicine, intensive care and surgical services. It also manages a broad range of services including dialysis, chemotherapy, diagnostic imaging, mammography, ultrasound, addiction counseling and detoxification, a sexual assault centre, physiotherapy and rehabilitation services, ambulance (land and dedicated air), palliative care and various education programs.

The Lake of the Woods District Hospital meets the immediate healthcare needs of residents of the City of Kenora, as well as a large surrounding area, including several First Nations Communities.
