About the role

Are you a forward-thinking strategist who sees data as the cornerstone of a resilient city? The City of Edmonton’s Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) team is looking for a Systems Analyst who does more than just manage data—they architect the intelligence that fuels our city’s future infrastructure needs.

In this role, you are the strategic bridge between complex technical ecosystems and the City’s long-term infrastructure goals. You won’t just be maintaining systems; you will be optimizing a vast data landscape to ensure that high-quality information empowers leaders to make the right calls for our community.

As a sophisticated communicator with high digital fluency, you will translate technical complexities into actionable business insights. You are an influencer who can navigate diverse stakeholder groups, building the trust and consensus necessary to drive enterprise-wide data excellence. If you are ready to move beyond technical execution and lead through strategic alignment and collaborative innovation, we want you on our team.

What You Will Do?

  • Act as the subject matter expert on data governance, helping to design the standards that ensure organizational integrity across 10+ corporate systems, including SAP, GIS, and Tririga
  • Bridge the gap between departmental business needs and technical execution, designing sustainable, long-term data flow solutions that improve enterprise-wide performance
  • Combine complex data into high-level dashboards and analytical models that provide leadership with actionable intelligence, rather than just raw data
  • Serve as the strategic bridge between technical teams and business units. You will proactively manage diverse stakeholder expectations, navigating complex organizational structures to ensure EAM initiatives align with departmental goals and City-wide priorities
  • Collaborate with a network of over 20 data stewards to resolve discrepancies, enforce high-level standards, and promote a culture of data excellence
  • Partner with people leaders to identify systemic inefficiencies and spearhead enhancements that optimize how the City manages its asset data

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Technology, or a related field
  • 3-5 years of combined experience in systems engineering, data governance, and business analysis
  • Hands-on experience building system integrations, managing data within a governance framework, and acting as a subject matter expert or "power user" for complex systems

Assets:

  • Proven experience with data governance principles and practices
  • Familiarity with major enterprise systems including GIS, SAP, and Tririga
  • Proficiency in SQL for data querying and analysis.

Skills Required for Success:

  • Proven ability to manage complex corporate systems (e.g., SAP, GIS, Tririga) with a focus on governance frameworks. You are adept at integrating these systems within a Google Workspace environment to ensure seamless data flow and organizational transparency
  • Exceptional ability to dissect complex information to identify root causes. This includes advanced proficiency in Google Sheets for sophisticated data modeling and the ability to leverage Google Cloud/BigQuery environments to support enterprise-scale analysis
  • Proven track record of building and maintaining trust with cross-functional teams and senior leadership
  • Possessing the political acumen to navigate competing priorities and the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels to adopt new data standards and strategic workflows
  • Strong skills in translating technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders. You will champion the use of the Google Suite (Docs, Slides, Drive) as a primary platform for real-time collaboration, strategic storytelling, and executive-level presentations.
  • Experience leveraging BI tools—specifically Google Looker or Tableau—to transform raw data into high-level business outcomes and executive-level dashboards
  • A forward-thinking approach to technology, using Google’s collaborative ecosystem to automate workflows, reduce silos, and increase the velocity of decision-making across the City
  • A proactive and independent work ethic with a strong sense of ownership and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment
  • Alignment to our Cultural Commitments and Leadership Competencies ( https://bit.ly/4brRrXm )
  • Embracing a culture of equity, diversity, reconciliation and inclusion
