Opportunity Overview
We are seeking an experienced and visionary Vice President, Operations to join our Senior Leadership Team.
Reporting directly to the President, this executive role is responsible for providing strategic and operational leadership across V!VA’s portfolio of retirement communities. The Vice President, Operations will drive operational excellence, financial performance, and exceptional Community Member experiences while building strong leadership capability across the organization.
This is a highly influential role for a collaborative, people‑focused leader who thrives in a fast‑paced, growth‑oriented environment and is passionate about delivering best‑in‑class service.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Leadership & Performance
- Provide overall leadership and direction for day‑to‑day community operations, ensuring high standards of service, care, safety, and hospitality.
- Drive achievement of operational, financial, and performance targets through effective planning, execution, and cost management.
- Monitor occupancy, KPIs, and financial results, proactively identifying risks and opportunities for improvement.
- Partner closely with Community Directors and Regional leaders to support underperforming communities and implement corrective strategies.
Strategic & Financial Accountability
- Contribute to corporate strategy, budgeting, and long‑term operational planning.
- Support pricing strategies, pro‑forma models, and financial planning for new and existing communities.
- Collaborate with Asset Management, Construction, and Design teams on capital deployment, new community openings, and renovations.
- Ensure all communities achieve and maintain Ontario Retirement Communities Association (ORCA) accreditation.
Operational Excellence & Systems
- Lead the development, implementation, and standardization of best‑in‑class operating systems and processes across all communities.
- Oversee operational software and systems implementation, including vendor selection, training, and data privacy compliance.
- Develop and maintain audit tools to ensure operational consistency, regulatory compliance, and alignment with V!VA values.
Community Member Experience & Risk Management
- Champion a culture of service excellence and continuously enhance the Community Member experience.
- Monitor satisfaction metrics, analyze feedback, and ensure service offerings remain competitive and industry‑leading.
- Support Community Directors in managing complex issues, including complaints, operational challenges, and regulatory matters.
- Ensure health, safety, and wellness standards meet or exceed regulatory and organizational expectations.
People Leadership & Culture
- Build, lead, and mentor a high‑performing operational leadership team.
- Drive talent development, succession planning, and performance management across the organization.
- Foster collaboration, accountability, and engagement while modelling V!VA’s values and service‑focused culture.
- Act as a trusted advisor to community leaders and executive colleagues.
Qualifications
- Post‑secondary education in Business Administration, Health Care Administration, or a related field; a Master’s degree is an asset.
- Minimum 10 years of progressive operational leadership experience, including 5+ years in a senior management role.
- Strong background in operations, hospitality, property management, and financial management.
- Proven P&L accountability with a track record of driving revenue growth and operating income.
- Experience leading multi‑site operations in a regulated environment.
- Strong strategic thinking, financial acumen, and problem‑solving skills.
- Exceptional communication, leadership, and influencing capabilities.
- High emotional intelligence, integrity, and a people‑first leadership style.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and comfort leveraging technology and data to drive decisions.
- Valid driver’s licence and ability to travel regularly.
Working Conditions
- Hybrid schedule: minimum of three days on-site at North York Home Office or V!VA communities across Ontario
- Regular travel to V!VA communities, vendors, and partners
- Flexible schedule required, including occasional evenings and weekends.
- Fast‑paced, high‑impact executive role with significant responsibility and autonomy.
