POSITION SUMMARY

The Social Development Coordinator is responsible for the delivery, coordination, and continuous improvement of social development and income assistance programs for Lower Nicola Indian Band (LNIB).

This role supports individuals and families through a holistic, client-centered approach, addressing barriers to wellness, employment, and self-sufficiency. The Coordinator works collaboratively across departments and external agencies to ensure culturally safe, trauma-informed, and effective service delivery aligned with LNIB values and funding requirements.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

PROGRAM DELIVERY & CASE MANAGEMENT

  • Administer social assistance and related programs in accordance with ISC/Indigenous Services Canada guidelines and LNIB policies
  • Conduct client intakes, needs assessments, and ongoing case management
  • Develop individualized support plans focused on independence, employment readiness, and overall well-being
  • Monitor client progress and adjust supports as needed
  • Maintain accurate, confidential client records using digital systems

CLIENT SUPPORT & ADVOCACY

  • Provide one-on-one support, guidance, and referrals to community members
  • Assist clients in accessing employment, education, housing, and health-related services
  • Advocate on behalf of clients with external agencies and service providers
  • Support clients through complex or crisis situations using a trauma-informed approach

PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT & COMPLIANCE

  • Ensure programs are delivered in compliance with funding agreements, policies, and reporting requirements
  • Track program outcomes and contribute to reporting, proposals, and funding documentation
  • Identify gaps in services and recommend improvements or new initiatives
  • Support audits, file reviews, and program evaluations

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT & COLLABORATION

  • Promote awareness of social development programs within the community
  • Collaborate with internal departments (Health, Education, Economic Development, Housing, etc.) to support integrated service delivery
  • Build relationships with external partners, including government agencies and community organizations
  • Participate in community events, outreach, and engagement initiatives

ADMINISTRATIVE & REPORTING

  • Maintain up-to-date client files and program documentation
  • Prepare reports, statistics, and summaries as required
  • Support budgeting processes and tracking of program expenditures
  • Contribute to internal communications and reporting as needed

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Diploma or Degree in Social Work, Human Services, or a related field is an asset
  • Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience will be considered
  • Experience working in social development, income assistance, or community support services
  • Experience working with Indigenous communities strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated experience in case management and client support

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Strong understanding of social assistance programs and socio-economic challenges
  • Ability to apply trauma-informed and culturally safe practices
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills
  • Excellent organization, time management, and documentation skills
  • Ability to manage sensitive and confidential information
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and case management or database systems

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

  • Office-based with frequent interaction with clients
  • Exposure to sensitive and emotionally complex situations
  • Occasional travel or community outreach required
