Under the direction of Technology Integration Manager (TIM) and acting as a resource for the Shift Manager in an Area Control Centre (ACC), ensures the proper functionality of air traffic control systems, the integrity of air traffic control (ATC) software, and the operational acceptability of all automated equipment used in the provision of air traffic control services within the ACC and FIR. Adapts and manages system data bases for optimum ATC and FSS operational use; analyses the performance of equipment systems and implements changes to meet changing conditions; coordinates and fulfils the operational and managerial requirements for the integration and ongoing operation of equipment systems within the Air Traffic Services environment in the Area Control Centre, Air Traffic Control Towers, Flight Service Stations (FSS), Flight Information Centre (FIC), and operational systems provided by NAV CANADA to outside agencies. Provides Subject Matter Expertise (SME) in support of other parts of NAV CANADA such as Technical Training, Life Cycle Management, statistics gathering, etc. Provide and perform the duties of OPI for systems as required.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Ensures the proper operation of computer automated air traffic control systems, the integrity of ATC software and site adaptations, and the operational acceptability of other equipment used in the provision of air traffic control and Flight Services to facilitate the safe and expeditious movement of air traffic.
  • Manages system databases to ensure optimum ATC operational use and system integrity.
  • Analyses operational performance of equipment systems and recommends changes as required to meet changing conditions.
  • Coordinates and fulfils the operational and managerial requirements for the integration and ongoing operation of equipment systems within the air traffic services environment to ensure air traffic control operational requirements are met.

Education/Occupational Certification:

  • Successful completion of an approved Air Traffic Control area/oceanic/terminal training program recognized by Transport Canada;
  • Possession of an Air Traffic Controller licence issued under the authority of the Minister of Transport and having reached endorsement level as an Area, Oceanic or Terminal Controller.

Experience:

  • Experience as an area, oceanic or terminal controller.

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of policies, practices, standards and procedures relevant to an Air Traffic Control Unit;
  • Knowledge of Air Traffic Services systems and equipment;
  • Knowledge of airspace and of aircraft operating characteristics;
  • Knowledge of NAV CANADA’s organization, responsibilities, and priorities.

Working conditions:

  • Shift work is required, including late evenings and nights with occasional midnight shifts, with flexibility to address system issues outside of regular working hours.
  • Travel may be required, to support technology initiatives and system integration projects.
  • This position is a hybrid.
