About the role
CoSA VFX Vancouver is seeking an experienced Digital Matte Painter for its upcoming projects. For this 100% remote role, artists must be based in British Columbia or Ontario and reports to the Global Head of CG.
RESPONSIBILITIES:

Create photo-real environments, set extensions, and textures to seamlessly integrate into live-action plates or to function as stand-alone DMP assets

Develop 3D-aware matte paintings using projections, geometry, and camera setups to ensure accurate parallax and perspective

Collaborate with the VFX Supervisor and CG Leads to define creative approaches and technical execution

Prepare look development tests and iterations for supervisor and/or client review

Integrate live-action photography, HDRIs, LiDAR scans, and CG renders to build environments that hold up in high-resolution, final-pixel delivery

Review notes and update assets based on feedback from clients and internal supervisors
REQUIREMENTS:
-
5+ years of experience as a digital matte painter in episodic TV, streaming series, and/or feature films
-
Demonstrated ability to create photo-real set extensions, landscapes, cityscapes, and environment composites
-
Expert-level proficiency in Photoshop and strong working knowledge of Nuke, Maya, and projection-based workflows
-
Understanding of cameras, lenses, depth of field, and real-world scale for accurate environmental integration
-
Ability to combine 2D and 3D elements, including photogrammetry assets and procedural environments
-
Strong artistic eye for composition, lighting, color grading, and mood
-
Familiarity with 3D texturing and sculpting tools such as Substance 3D Painter/Designer, Mari, or ZBrush a strong plus

Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to collaborate across departments

Proven time-management skills to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced episodic/feature pipeline
