Job type: Contract – 35 hours per week - Up to 6 months

What you’ll do in the role
- Provides relevant, competent legal support services while also being fair, equitable, respectful, and culturally relevant to all First Nations children and families who are determined to require Agency services.
- Ensures Agency Lawyer is kept apprised and up to date on the status of all cases.
- Point of contact for booking internal and external meetings for the Agency Lawyer.
- Drafts letters to external counsel and First Nations as needed.
- Coordinates instrumental and supportive requirements for court hearings including preparing court documents as requested.
- Completion of service of court related documents as required.
- Files the required affidavits, notices, motions and necessary legal documents with the court as required.
- Complies with processes and standards governed by legislation and regulation.
- Complies with all reporting and documentation requirements and standards, within prescribed timelines.
- Maintains an effective filing system and ensures confidentiality and safeguarding of all agency and client records.
- Act as back up support for Legal Workers when they are unavailable due to trial preparation or time off requests.
- Ensures confidentiality and safekeeping of all agency and client records.
- Participates as a member of the legal team in the achievement of team service objectives and targets.
- Contributes to processes, related to Kunuwanimano’s Status as a mandated agency under the legislation
- Participates in opportunities with other agencies where appropriate and establishes and maintains effective working relationships.
- Participates on committees, and community and provincial working groups as required.
- Participates in community events and activities, which promote a positive image of the agency
- And all other duties as required

What you bring to the table
- Post-secondary diploma in a related field (legal assistant, law clerk program etc.), also, relevant post-secondary diploma/certificate in office administration or equivalent; combination of education and experience within a human service environment may be considered.
- 1-3 years’ related experience in office administration with progressively responsible administrative responsibilities.
- Must produce clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening
- The ability to speak a native language is considered a major asset.
- Demonstrate excellent planning, organizational, and administrative skills.
- Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills to liaise with a variety of internal and external contacts, oral and written communication skills.
- Relevant post-secondary diploma/certificate in office administration, law clerk, or equivalent.
- Extensive experience and understanding of legal procedures, terminology, and documents.
- Participate in in-service training and professional development.
- Must possess a valid “G” Ontario Driver’s license.
- Be willing to travel and access a reliable vehicle with a $2 million rider liability.
- Able to work flexible hours.
