About the role
Essential Functions
- Provide day-to-day leadership of production operations to ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective manufacturing performance.
- Lead supervisors, team leaders, and salaried staff to meet or exceed key performance indicators including safety, quality, scrap, uptime, throughput, and labour efficiency.
- Promote and maintain a positive workplace culture focused on accountability, communication, teamwork, and respect.
- Ensure compliance with all safety policies, regulatory requirements, and company procedures.
- Coordinate staffing, scheduling, training, and labour utilization to meet operational requirements across multiple shifts.
- Partner with Human Resources on employee relations matters including attendance, discipline, investigations, engagement, and talent development.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives using root cause analysis, lean manufacturing, and problem-solving tools.
- Collaborate with Quality and Engineering teams to improve processes, reduce defects, and support customer satisfaction.
- Manage production budgets, cost controls, overtime usage, and departmental spending.
- Support capital planning, equipment upgrades, and operational readiness for new processes or products.
- Develop succession plans and coach team members to strengthen internal talent pipelines.
- Prepare and present production reports, metrics, and action plans to plant leadership.
- Adherence to NSG/Pilkington Standards of Business Conduct and its Values and Principles.
- Other duties as assigned by manager.
Scope / Dimensions
- Leadership responsibility for a large manufacturing department operating 24/7.
- Direct impact on plant output, safety performance, labour costs, quality results, and customer service.
- Frequent interaction with Plant Manager, HR, Finance, Quality, Engineering, Maintenance, and Supply Chain.
- Responsible for leading both hourly and salaried team members.
Qualifications Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Operations Management, Business, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum 7 years of progressive manufacturing leadership experience.
- Minimum 3 years leading leaders in a high-volume manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of production systems, safety standards, quality systems, and labour planning.
- Experience leading within a unionized environment preferred.
- Strong communication, coaching, conflict resolution, and employee engagement skills.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze data and use metrics to drive decisions.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and ERP / HRIS systems.
Qualifications Desired
- Experience in automotive or glass manufacturing.
- Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification.
- Experience managing budgets and capital projects.
- Change management and culture transformation experience.
Other Requirements
- Ability to work flexible hours in support of a 24/7 operation.
- Ability to respond to operational emergencies outside normal business hours when required.
- Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with appropriate PPE
