About the role

Are you a visionary educator with a passion for transforming student outcomes through evidence-based literacy instruction? The Peace River School Division is seeking a dynamic Full-Time (1.00) K-12 Literacy Program Coordinator to join our Learning Services Team at Central Operations in the town of Grimshaw. Reporting to the Assistant Superintendent of Learning Services you will serve as the divisional architect for literacy, bridging the gap between high-level strategies and classroom impact.

As our Literacy Coordinator, you will lead the implementation of the Division's Literacy Framework, ensuring “Success for All” is a reality in every classroom. You will move fluidly between analyzing divisional data and modeling best practice instruction alongside our teaching staff. The successful candidate will commence work at a mutually agreed upon time and will be directly responsible to the Assistant Superintendent of Learning Services.

Do you understand the Science of Reading and know how to help a veteran teacher or a brand-new hire translate that science into joyful, effective classroom practice? Do you believe that literacy instruction is a powerful tool for equity and student wellness, and do you have the “soft skills” to build strong, professional relations with teachers, principals, parents, and community partners alike?

Key Responsibilities Strategic Leadership and Implementation

  • Lead the implementation of the PRSD Literacy Framework across K-12.
  • Empower school administrators to “lead the learning” and foster a data-informed culture.
  • Collaborate with external partners (NRLC, AAC, ATA) to align divisional goals with provincial standards.

Instructional Coaching and Capacity Building

  • Model best-practice instruction (Science of Reading) alongside teachers in the classroom.
  • Support with the New Teacher Mentorship program and August orientation.
  • Support staff in enhancing “Assessment Literacy” and formative assessment practices.

Data and Monitoring

  • Oversee the use of PRSD literacy benchmark assessments to ensure responsive teaching.
  • Analyse divisional data to identify trends and bridge achievement gaps.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Education Degree with specialization in Literacy Education.
  • A minimum of 7-10 years of successful K-12 teaching experience in Literacy Education.
  • Regular travel to schools throughout the division is required; a valid driver's license and reliable vehicle are essential.

Assets include

  • A Master of Education degree in Literacy Education or related area.
  • Training and/or experience in coaching.
  • Experience in organizing and delivering engaging PD for staff.

The position will commence on August 27, 2026, with flexibility for an earlier start date, potentially as early as May 1, 2026, subject to individual circumstances and mutual agreement. Annual Salary Range: $62,702 to $105,996 (dependent on experience and education in accordance with the c ollective agreement between the Alberta Teachers' Association and the Peace River School Division) and additional allowance as per Article 3.
